Measuring intercooler air temps

I want to know what kind of air temps are entering my throttle body so I am going to install a thermocouple after the intercooler. I might also install one after the turbo just to see what kind of temps its putting out. I am thinking about using this one

but I only need it temporarily and this seems like overkill in work and expense. Instead I am thinking I will just use a wire type thermocouple and slip it in past on of the rubber pipe connectors.

Just curious to see if anyone had any recommendations. I've never played with thermocouples before. I know they need to be calibrated in an ice bath first, but is there anything else that would be good to know?

Also, if anyone can recommend a better or easier thermocouple, that would be great.

why not just buy an air temp gauge? autometer and a few others make them.
check your stuff out, then sell it off when you're done.
