Hi all,

I have a Mazsport Turbo system on my car... just curious if anybody knew the size of the turbos he used offhand. I believe I have the "Type 1" kit that Mazsport offered; it came with a Garrett oil/water cooled, ball bearing turbo. I can take pictures when I get home if that would help.

The reason I'm asking is that I'm thinking about changing directions with my vehicles; I will be going back to stock, selling the 8, parting out the modifications (turbo kit, JIC suspension, etc etc), and buying an FD for cruising / weekend drives, and a Miata for autocross. Before I list things for sale - both here and on some local forums - I want to know the exact size of what I'm selling. The turbo 8 has been a LOT of fun, but I've come to two realizations; Turbo 8's suck at autocross, which is all that's offered around here, and I really, really, really want an FD. I'd consider running STU (I think) or CS, but I know it wouldn't be the same anymore, and I wouldn't enjoy it as much.

Supposedly it's a T4 T67.

But they scratched off identifier off the box, and the turbo itself.

Turbo 8's can be great with the right size turbo, you just have one that's not suited for it.

i think that we have a good set up of turbo.....i kind of like it because it's boosting at 5 K rpm.... so i don't have to boost it all the times....

but, it's just for me....

That is a T04Z, aka a Ball Bearing To4R. It has a ptrim turbine wheel, 66.7mm compressor wheel(inducer). I think its has a diesel style To4E compressor housing( 4" inlet 2" discharge) with a custom back plate.

Way too big of a compressor wheel for the Rx-8, especially autoX. I would run a Gt35R over that any day, probably see a 1500rpm faster full boost pressure...

 

Another thing leading to this is I blew another engine this weekend... boost spike, warmer temperatures, mistuning on my part... pop. The Renesis is just too fragile, especially since nobody in my area knows much about it. I'm not the best versed person in turbo theory. If I lived somewhere where there were a few other boosted 8's around, and people with knowledge of the Renesis and how to properly boost it I think I would switch turbos and keep going. Internet knowledge can only go so far - there's no replacement for getting a professional tuner with years of experience physically in your car and tweaking stuff. As it is, I'm a lone horse here... and that's a rough and too expensive of a way to learn.

Plus, I really have wanted an FD for a very long time. This timing gives me a great excuse to go that route, and the Miata will let me stay in a (relatively cheap) ST-type class for Autocross, still represent Mazda on course, and kick a lot of *** on a budget.

 

good thing to know that, but i will keep it in mind as i told you before that i will cantact you when my new engine going in....because it's worked, so i will be happy to let you know about the turbo set up
