Powersteering Question

Powersteering Question
This is for all the guys that have either swapped to a different rotary engine, or swapped to a whole new question all together.
I know the RX8 uses an electric assist pump vs a belt-driven pump and most of the swapped RX8s I've seen don't have the electric pump anymore. Are you guys converting to a mechanical pump, looping the lines and running without powersteering, swapping to different steering racks or what?

Uncontrollable drifter
Ummm, I haven't touched it at all, the setup is totally stock with it's wiring. All you need to do is install the front crank sensor and of course leave the stock computer still attached.

not sure what you are asking.
the stock steering goes through the ecu.. it is electric..
if you are going to swap anything.. there you go...
it goes through the ecu..
if you swap motor..
get ready to lose. at least.. abs, dsc, radio, pretty much anything that uses the ecu.
or have lots of money, or a friend..
just saying.. simple and easy tends to be neither..

Uncontrollable drifter
Like swoope said, it's an electro-hydaraulic steering rack that's controlled by the ecu, since a stopped car, driving slow, and driving fast all require(not really all but) different adjustments. I kept the stock ecu and crank sensor and all the wiring and I still have everything mentioned above except for traction control(working on that soon)

Ok then I just won't worry about the powersteering setup anymore then. Swaps are easy enough.
You move to factory RX8 engine harness out of the way but leave it intact so the factory RX8 CU still operates everything the way it should, and just run the harness and ECU for the other engine.

Is the electro-hydraulic rack something that Mazda warranty's?
reason I am asking is because mine is crapping out on me. It started catching every time i would turn left and it has gotten worse, so I took it to a dealership that I got it from (not mazda dealer) and the part alone the guy said was $1500.00
All together the price was $3652.00 because I need new tires as well which were like 700.00
He said it would take a week for them to fix it because they have to drop the engine or something.
Does this sound like he is trying to rape me in costs or is there somewhere I can get this part online?
Thanks for your help
