This is an all out race engine so none of that matters here .

Not shot down at all, OD. You added nothing new, just reposted the same questions and ideas that had already been discussed multiple times in multiple threads, despite the fact that you've been on this forum about as long as anybody. I know you think I hate you, but that's not true. I just get annoyed, and once again no less, that you still can't grasp some basic concepts. Did you ever actually watch and pay attention to this?????? If you feel vindicated, then apparently not ....

Our latest project has been the development of a turbo Renesis engine for our Redline Time Attack RX-8.

We have designed and built a new manifold and downpipe, and will utilize a Turbosmart wastegate and Turbonetics T4 turbo.

The Renesis has been machined here at Mazdatrix for the oversize stud kit that we sell. The stock rotors have had the apex seal grooves EDM’d to accept the taller and stronger 86-95 style apex seals. We will be using ceramic seals, and the rotors have also been side cut for extra clearance that is preferable in highly stressed engines.

The plan is for the engine to be on the dyno in the next couple of weeks - we will be busy this week with the Formula Drift finale at Irwindale Speedway - and then we will be on track in October 23-24 at Infineon Raceway for Redline Time Attack.

We have posted photos of the engine here: http://www.mazdatrixracing.com/?p=394

Really nicez! Very impressive! :eyetwitch

they are running Renesis rotors machined for the older style apex seals

hey Team--now that little clip should be a stickie.
I know you dont hate me--i am too good looking for that:)

Point taken. But it does take away my random-ness--jk

Someone here in Greece did that already, I think last year but eventually broke for some reason.

that all looks like Greek to me .....

If you're referring to the red engine, it doesn't have 6-port end housings. At least not in that pic.

TeamRx8, you're right about that-never noticed that! The original thread is about another car and engine. The r&b one pictured is actually using engine parts from the Challenge model which is 4port and 192hp. Good eye!

sorry man - it HAD to be said ..... :lol2:

neit_jnf 10-08-2010 01:17 PM

Man I always had this idea and was waiting for someone to do it!! Now how about a semi-peripheral intake as well?

I wonder how this setup would do aspirated with a properly designed aspirated exhaust header....

I started a thread about adding the P port to the renasis and it was shot down.
Old news.

Very, very, sweet, sick and solid looking engine you got there dudes!
Adding a steel part to the upper part of the MM? Did you fill the insides with hockey pucks?
Those 3" header pipes??

Use rx7 rotors?
power goal range estimate?
Stay away from 9K without more eshaft and rotor work?
Water meth is your friend--can you use it? Even just water will help--right?

Sorry--too many questions--i just get excited seeing that damn thing!
Really nice.

OD, don't feel bad, I got shut down too ... This is exactly the set-up I wanna go for once I graduate from College and get a real job in a year

OP, how is your idle?

I see the Iannetti logo - sweet. How much boost are you planning?

I hope people enjoy this as a cool engine build and dont start thinking it will be a doddle to have in a street car!

Looks very interesting though....

Mazdatrix 10-18-2010 02:16 PM

We just posted a few more detail shots of the studded race engine as it went together on our blog.

We are going to be running 14 psi with this setup.

Will the race engine and turbo kit serve as a template for a street version?

Hey, is there any specific reason as to why you used 84-85 7 housings as opposed to later FD housings? Timing issues or something else? I'm thinking of building an engine like this since I have all the parts just laying around, but I have 13bre housings.

TeamRX8 10-19-2010 02:50 AM

Because you would have to machine coolant seal grooves in your housings

You may want to learn a whole lot more before tackling such a project. Note that nothing has been proven yet. I'm not even talking basics like understanding what basic parts work together but stuff like custom fabrication, aftermarket ecu system, heavy financial burden, etc.

In the end, whether there's any benefit to doing this rather than blocking/filling the side exults ports, or even just doing a 13B 6-port conversion instead, remains to be seen. I'm not even informed enough to come up with those questions myself. They came up during a discussion with another notable engine builder that doesn't consider the Renesis to be the best choice for high output FI ... that said he didn't knock the project, but was interested in the results.

Yeah I realized it about 5min after I wrote it but was to lazy to turn the pc on again and edit.

Already looked it over, nothing really too difficult-fabrication,ecu, and cash. That's the really easy stuff. Only tuning would be my problem. Like I mentioned before, other people here have done it so...

The answer to this is yes and no. We don't expect to have a huge demand for the race engine, but we are fabricating a turbo manifold for the OEM Renesis.

What we have seen in our market is most customers seem to want to assemble their own turbo kit, so we will be offering all the parts needed to make a system. Manifold(s) will be built and the customer then specifies what turbo flange they want welded on, what waste gate flange, is it blowing back into the downpipe or to the atmosphere, 3" or 2.5" downpipe, etc. We have the various injectors available now, as well as a line of Haltech computers.

So a customer can build their own system around our Renesis manifold. Of course, if they would rather us do the work, we can build an entire system in house here at Mazdatrix.

9krpmrx8 10-19-2010 01:37 PM

Nice. I wish I lived close to an outfit like this.

TeamRX8 10-19-2010 01:47 PM

Easy cash = easy tuning, cheaper than the rest of it for sure :dunno:
