LS1/LS2 swap maybe Lingenfelter
well wanted to do the 20b swap but that gets too pricey. Considered 13b but then heard bad things about it. I Love the 8's design/look, I absolutely love this car, but I jus need more power. Going from a v8 Camaro to a rx8 is a BIG adifference. dont get me wrong id take the 8 over it anyday just because i absolutely love it so much but maybe this swap would perfect it for me. Basically was wondering what I would need to get to do the swap, besides the engine and the transmission what else would need to be done? and who would i go to to do it?
I know it would need to be small block, but would the ls1 and ls2 both fit(not at the same time of course)? what about a ls2 lingenfelter twin turbo?
open to suggestions and hopefully someone can help me out. thank you. maybe PM me with a list of things needed.

Lingenfelter.....
A V8 won't suit the gearbox, too much torque, so you are into a new one, which means you lose the carbon fibre driveshaft.
The rear end is geared WAY too low for a slow old stroker, so your top speed is now 85mph, or get a custom one made - is it still an RX-8?
Everything you do increases the weight - now it's a Camaro....

Well i dont know how much weight it might end up adding. I dont think it is quite as much as some lead others to believe. No one has tried so we dont know yet. However, the rx7s that do it arnt much, if any heavier or worse handling then before. Look at the prices for the swap for the 7 and then you will have an idea of where to start from, although it will most likely cost a little more then that because its new. I really want to see this done. A few people a brought it up and some one just needs to do it.

It's cool that you like the 8 a lot, and would choose it over the 8. I hear about people swapping v8's into them for the same reason, but some of those guys seemed to've not liked the Rotary, but it could be just me. If you get the Lingenfelter, it would be a sick and insane thing, and you'd have to post pics. The 8 looks a lot faster than it really is stock, or at least it looks faster in a straight line than it is, but apparently it wasn't designed for that, but for the track - or more blunt, for the 'twisties.'
Don't expect it to handle like a madman when you do it though, the weight will def. add up, so it WILL be about the same weight as a camaro, or worse.

Like I said, i just want to find out what I need. for those being supportive thank you, for the more arrogant ones thanks too..!.. ..!.. this swap would be very interesting to me than keepin the RENESIS around. i like it and maybe now jus isnt our time, maybe ill find more interest in it once its more advanced but this swap catches my interested.
It wouldnt be as heavy as the camaro because the maro body is alot heavier right? alot will have to be taken out to fit the engine so it would amount for some of the weight. Mounts for the engine would have to be remade perhaps all custom. As someone mentioned earlier the gearbox and a custom rear end? Headed towards the 7 forums to get a better idea..
any more suggestions or anyone who can help?

Look at the RX7 ls1 swaps. None of them are super heavy. I dont know the tranny weight difference but it cant be that much and i know the ls1 is about the same weigt as a 13b. The only big weight difference would be the the drivetrain after the tranny but again, it cant be that much heavier.

Yeah, the weight difference is not huge. The LS engines are aluminum, while the rotary engines are much smaller, they were nearly as heavy in the old FD's. But you do take off the turbo system & complex piping/tubing of the 13B's.
Might want to talk to Hinson Motorsports. They do a lot of LS RX7 conversions. If anybody would know it would probably be them.

weight increase will be quite a few pounds if you're stock NA right now.
rx7 13b came with two turbos along with all the complicated pipings for the turbos. that's why (imho) it suited ls block conversion fairly well as far as weight and balance were concerned. i had driven one and i thought it handled great.
as of rx8, i think if you move the battery to the back, it should balance out relatively well. you may get just a tiny bit of understeer but who really knows? we'll all be guessing at this point.
if you got the means, do it. i'd love to see how it'd turn out. maybe you and i can race on an oval to see who's faster after your ls conversion haha

Yah you should PM Marrietta8 he has an LS powered RX7. He may be able to point you in the right direction as far as costs and the other fine intricacies associated with this project. As much as I would love to see an LS__ engine sitting in a RX8 chassis, it may be easier to swap in a MazdaSpeed inline 4. Basically the new MX5 shares the RX8 platform, so it should require very little fabrication. Unless you need all that power from the LS, why not go with a I4 turboed. These engines should be good for about 350-400 hp before major modification?
Also, don't know if you were aware that you need a engine that is the same year as your car, otherwise your car will no longer be street legal.

They are still looking to do an RX-8, they will need about $8k~$10k plus parts.
