Logalinipoo's Custom turbo build.
Logalinipoo's Custom turbo build.
I've got a Winning Blue 05, 6 speed sport. I bought it new with <200 miles and have had it ever since. The engine went in 2011 at 138K miles so I rebuilt it with a lot of help from here. Then seeing all the boost threads made me want that too.
The engine
rebuilt 6 port
All new seals and springs Cryo treated on everything I could get
New bearings, oil pump, oil shaft
Ported with RB templete
port Matched and ported the LIM as much as I could.
New housings, Cleared around the spark plugs
Atking Cryo treated seals
Atkins Cryo solid corner seals
Hand fitted Cryo side seals
Custom raised pressure regulator to about 130 PSI max
Thermal Pellet mod
Custom AC Delco D585 Coils with Accel Pro 25 8.8MM Sleaved wires( stock plugs for now)
Sohn Adaptor with Weapon R catch can
Ebay catch can for oil breather
CSF radiator
Sheet metal Splash shield with uprights.
AT counterweight with Exedy Hyper single Clutch and Flywheel
Fuel system
Injectors, currently running Stock red's and 4, 750cc Deatschwerks
DW300 in tank pump
The turbo(being built and installed currently)
Custom built Stainless Low mount manifold with 1.5" tubes, 3" Stainless Down pipe to 3" flange on a Racing beat mid pipe.
CT3-6765 Ball bearing/water cooled.(Used, I'm thinking of having it rebuilt and going to a 62 or maybe a 60 cold side.
600 HP rated Water/air inter cooler.
12x12x2" Radiator
3 Gallon water box
-12 Water Lines
Bosch Cobra Pump
All silicone IC piping
Synapse DV
Synapse 50MM waste gate
Lava wrap on the piping close to the Cold side and intake pipe.
PTP Lava turbo blanket. Gauges and instruments
Goodbox(currently in the mail)
Ark Design MFD 1
Cobb AP
Innovative LC1-Wideband
Dual vent gauge pod with EGT probe on rear rotor/Turrbo manifold pressure

Log,
It sounds like it will be a nice set up.
I'll actually be starting a build thread this winter so i'll be following yours as well as a few others as to critique my own.
Any photo's yet?--That was quick.

Are you certain the silicone will hold up to the heat the Turbo Renny puts out?
Also my question earlier regarding the intercooler was purely because i've never seen one like that before.

Yeah, It's no different then the silicone couplers that are used on any turbo system.
I figured it was. Water inter coolers have some advantages and disadvantages. I believe the petite s/c uses a water based inter cooler.

i just got the rb plate for my exhaust mani (non turbo) and removed the pump, tube and all the other stuff. i left the bracket the pump motor sits on to mount my catch can
Very cool. Love the silicon IC piping, a friend's WRX has something similar and it's great. Got a link to it?
For what it's worth, I ran a water to air intercooler on a high heat application (cramped roots supercharged 4 cyl). It would work great until heatsoak became an issue. So as usual, heatsoak is gonna be your enemy. I wound up having a dry ice box fabricated & got a better heat exchanger. That helped a ton if I planned on going for a long drive.

I thought about it but then just decided i was too lazy.
The note about silicone piping is a link to frozenboost. As for the intercooler. Thats part of why i went with a radiator rated for more than the ic. I also have a 3 gallon water box in there to give a lot of extra volume.
The intercooler is right behind the bumper mounted to the crash bar, but the water box is under the hood.

Nice man, glad to see you getting into it. I have and toyed with that exact same cooler (was on a turbo Miata), I would have given it to you had I known you were going that route,
. I after doing a lot of research I just decided the heat soak associated with these would be too much of a PIA to deal with.
I am looking forward to seeing the manifold
Edit: Missed the pic of the manifold. Looks Good! Where is your wastegate flange?

The waste gate will be straight off the back Of the manifold just below the turbo. I was working on the down pipe when i got called out for work. I want to build it first then see where i have to fit the waste gate to make sure nothing is too low.
Quick poll,
Should i plumb the waste gate to the down-pipe or should i dump it?

For a street car an open wastegate is annoying for a lot of people. I didn't mind it even when I still drove my car on the street, but in boost it is very loud. On track its not a big deal at all. There are advantages of running an open WG though, on my platform its common to pick up substantial power.
Good to see you finally doing it !
A few things .....
I would send the DW300 back and replace with a DW 200 . The 300 is too big and will cause some issues.
The only W/A IC i tuned was not that great ........... saw some really high IATs
Looking forward to see your progress

Those were a few older pics i had. I made it home tonight and this is where i left it. And about where i want the wastegate. Im going to get the downpipe in place then fit in the wastegate.
Thanks again to all yall. Im leaning heavily on things from each of you.
As for the dw300 i'm probably going with a full return system, unless you actually solve the in tank system. Ive already got everything for it. A synapse fuel pressure reg also.
Brett do you remember where the water air system was installed and if they had a water box or the system size. The intercooler is rated at 600 hp and the radiator at 1200. Im hoping the extra big radiator will help keep temps down. And running all 3/4" lines with a real pump not the bilge pump some people run them on.

I see temp rise of 2-3 degrees C max. when logging 3rd gear . With a W/A IC on another car running less boost I saw over 15 degreee rise.
