larger intercooler

What would be the effects of putting on a larger intercooler on the GReddy Kit?

Most likely decrease in performance. The intercooler only needs to be large enough for the amount of air it is cooling, I imagine Greddy used an intercooler that was matched for the turbo. Anything larger will result in a greater pressure loss, especially since the turbo all ready has a hard time making above 5psi at high revs.

My first question would be: where would you put a larger intercooler?

Also, define 'larger'. If there is greater flow capacity thru the intercooler, that will reduce head loss. If there is also greater cooling capacity, it could increase the mass flow rate into the engine, which means you could get more power. So really what you're looking for is a more efficient intercooler.

I have a stock GReddy turbo in my 8, along with an E-01 boost controller and a manual boost gauge mounted on my steering column. The E-01 has an RPM offset feature that keeps the boost from falling off at higher RPMs.

Right now, I am seeing 7+ psi all the way to redline, and have plenty of RPM offset left to get to 10+ psi. I don't know if 10 psi is going to yield a higher mass flow rate than 7, tho', because the turbo is making the air really, really hot when it spins fast enough to make that much pressure.

I'd really like to see you try to push 10psi up to redline. Not saying it can't be done, but I don't see it happening.

Well that is some interesting info though. I believe the consensus was that boost falls off at higher rpms because the turbo just isn't capable of flowing that much air. But if its the case the the E-01 can hold steady boost, then the boost falling off must be due to the wastegate and not the turbo size.

Do you have any plans of turning up the boost at all?

The turbo might be pumping out air at 10psi, but how much air is actualy being put out? How much air does the turbo flow CFM at redline?
