Well I am on 4.04 MM map so one or two more and It'll be completely done. Had my first pull with the new turbo and I gained about 3/4 car length on a stage 2+ SRT4 neon consistantly. This is running at approx 6 psi with the stock GReddy turbo. I plan on purchasing a GReddy PRofec B-Spec II boost controller within the next month and hopefully bump up the pressure to 9psi peak. Other than that new Koni Yellows will also be added to the mod list this summer and a BHR upgraded fuel pump.

Edit: I'll upload a video when I get a chance to take one

GReddy PRofec B-SpecII Ordered along with BHR airbox undertray replacement and GReddy front strut tower brace... Just wanted to spice up the engine bay a little bit

Also just recieved a Walbro 255lph pump motor and Hawk HPS pads for all four corners.

So about 2 weeks ago I installed new BHR Ignition Coils, wires and new NGK Plugs. I swapped from stock leading plugs to BUR9EQP leading plugs. My old plugs were very gunked up and the coils were on their way out (to the point where my car was running extremely rich). After installing the BHR goodies I found the car to be running a bit too lean. Going above 50% throttle and about 4500rpm the car starts to "stutter".

Figuring this was an issue of tuning I have subscribed to retune with MM as I had originally tuned for my Turbo (Stock GReddy turbo kit with HKS SSQV VTA). After receiving my first map from MM (4.01) the car is running considerably smoother.

I was out last night trying to log my WOT runs for the next MM tune and found that the stuttering problem is still happening; although it isnt as bad as it was on my old tune. Here are the details:

Part throttle AFR's are looking good, pulls strong until about 6500 rpm where I can feel power begin to stutter and can hear some quick popping from my exhaust (not sure if it is exactly backfiring). While this is happening my AFR's are still in a safe range, Approximately 10.8-11.2.

Trying to go WOT the stuttering begins at about 4500 rpm with louder popping/backfiring and again my AFR's are staying in a safe range. Of course in both situations as soon as I feel the power give and the stuttering I am letting off of the throttle.

In both situations the stuttering is only happening at boost levels above approximately 4-5 psi. (Although I havent tried going through these higher RPMS while attempting to stay out of boost.)

I checked over my ignition install and everything seems to be in order, wires are on the proper plugs, grounded to the proper location and all wire clips to the back of the coils are firmly installed. One thing I did notice is that the T1 coil (Second from the front of the car) seems to be loose in the BHR bracket and has a considerable amount of play.

Has anyone seen similiar symptoms or have any ideas of what this problem could be? Misfire? Faulty coils? There is no CEL appearing but I am using a COBB AP.

This is going to sound stupid, but it should be something to check as it happened to me. Make sure that the plugs are nice and tight. I replaced plugs last year, and didn't get the plugs in tight enough. Eventually at about 6K WOT, my car started to stuffer and lost power. It was also reading super lean. I eventually took a look at my plugs and they were literally loose enough that i could twist them off with my hand.

Did you start all over with MM's base tune? Can you post up a log from a 3rd gear pull to redline?

I am using and AEM EUGO AFR gauge in my midpipe O2 sensor location and the COBB AP with my stock O2 sensor in the downpipe location.

I will definitely check my plugs over (note I did not gap these plugs as I read that they should be pre gapped properly for the Rx8?)

And yes I did start over right from scratch with a base MM map. I did take some logs of what was happening but I did not, and probably shouldnt go to redline as is. I will try and get the AP CSV files posted up tonight after work for you guys to take a look at.

Yeah you can't really go by the aftermarket gauge because there is a latency so it's hard to get an accurate reading by just watching it while driving. If you started on a whole new base map then it's kind of moot to worry until the tune is done. Are you running the standard factory injectors setup? When you say "sputtering", I think of bogging from running pig rich like I was, which was causing spark blow out. But mine was all in the tune.

Hey Jesse, good to see you're still good and boosted!

How "loose" is the coil on the bracket?

I can easily wiggle it with one finger... If i wiggle it side to side the top of the coil can move approximately 1-2mm's if memory serves me right

@9k Yeah generally my AEM reads about 0.3 AFR higher than my Cobb and no I am confident it is not a rich bog down, it is almost like the timing could be off or something like that... I was just looking at the info that gets sent to MM though and ignition timing is not on the initial log... although I cant see how timing would have changed? New leading plugs somehow affects this??

Anyhow, the next logs have lead timing and ignition separation logged so hopefully it is only a tuning issue....

Was the dwell changed for the addition of the BHR coils? Is MM aware that you added these coils?

This is what Charles told me about the new coils:

"The new coils I use are said by my manufacturer to not require any additional dwell time in order to achieve maximum output, but I have not had a chance to verify that yet. If you wish to add dwell you will want to let your tuner know to maximize the dwell setting at 4.8 mS as a maximum."

Waiting for him to confirm if dwell adjustment is required.

Before throwing any more replacement parts if you have a previous log compare it to a recent one with the issue present, if your afr's nose dive first check for boost leaks.

Yes MM is aware that it is the sole reason I am re-tuning, and I'm not sure what he did with dwell settings. I will have to get more details from him in two weeks when his next tuning session is and see what his opinion on the matter is.

Greg I don't have any plans for new parts in the immediate future, and I would have logged prior to this install but the car was honestly running so rich prior to the BHR coil install that it was stalling at stop lights so I didnt think it was worth logging. With the new coils idle is great, driving is also great at part throttle until high rpms, and it is only WOT where it is ******* up at lower RPMS once my turbo is spooled up.

It is definitely not a rich bogging situation that I am experiencing. I think it is a better description about what is happening to being more related to the feeling of bouncing off a rev limiter....

Edit: the RPMS are not bouncing like they would on a rev limiter, this is just the sound and type of power lose I am relating it too

Yeah paimon sounds very similar to that, although I am listening to it on my car speakers through an iPad, so I'll listen again on Sunday when I get home to mys computer, what ended up being your issue? I need to read through your thread.

I will also get some video this week of what's going on.

Alright guys, I've attached a 3rd gear pull data log and two videos in 3rd gear. It only flutters under boost conditions, If I go part throttle without hitting boost I can get to redline no problem. Let me know what you guys think... Boost leak? no rich conditions.... Misfire?...... Faulty Coils/Wires/Plugs?? As I said in a previous post my T1 coil seem to be too loose in the BHR bracket.....

You can grab my Data log here: http://www.ge.tt/3XwMPOn/v/0?c

Video 1: Flutter begins at full boost around the 5 sec mark

Video 2: Flutter begins around the 7 sec mark
