That will pose a problem for those trying to use Hymee's supercharger in a left hand drive car. From the looks of it, it would probably not fit in it's current configuration in a left hand drive car. That doesn't make it much of a viable option over here. I love this setup though and would love to see it adapted.

I can certainly vouch for the awesome sound of Wildcard's car -- and sorry, Hymee, the vid doesn't do it justice. Although it is a matter of personal taste, it sounds more 'intense' and thus seriously powerful than the more frantic, chattery noise of the centrifugal s/c that was on the Rotor Master cars at the Nats.

That was like stabbing me in the heart with a dagger. Please tell me it isn't so?

C'mon rg, you can do better than that!

Hymee said quite clearly at this post he was aiming to handle both L/H & R/H cars. He's not aiming it just for the R/H market

It wouldn't be impossible to make work and would probably get fairly close as is. It just doesn't look like there's enough room as it sits. I could be wrong though. Nothing's impossible.

LHD is definately in our "not too distant" plans.

Cheers,
Hymee.

Hi all,

I've been keeping an eye on this thread since I got back from the Nats, but I thought I'd give Hymee the right of first reply, since it's his product and I am just the lucky first customer.

Having now driven the car around my local turf for a few days, I can give you my personal impressions. The SC has made the car a pleasure to drive, particularly in traffic. Throttle response is instant from any rpm and the surge in acceleration is the equivalent to being about 4000rpm further up the scale in an NA car. The other major difference is that with so much extra torque available, I rarely use more than 25% throttle driving normally. Full boost (10psi) is avaliable from about 50% throttle onwards, so there is just no need to stamp on the accelerator pedal at all.

For overtaking or trying to squeeze past someone, there is no longer a need to drop it back 2 gears to make sure that you have instant throttle response. Just give the pedal a tap in the gear you are in and she's all sweet.

At the top end, I wouldn't put the car in the category of a "beast" or overpowered, at least not yet. Acceleration is solid, not neck-snapping. Perhaps once we extract another 50whp out of the top end in the coming months it will be, but for now it is quite controllable. While the engine is tuned all the way to 9000rpm, I find that I just don't need to go there like I used to. The job is already done well before then.

In the video you can hear me changing gear from 3rd to 4thas I go past the camera, so I am doing about 130km/h or so I guess. I was gettting up to about 165 by the end of the straight. The corner I am coming out of is a 2nd gear corner.

Thanks everyone for your interest. Having lived through the development and install on my car, it was no mean feat to get this far. The final product will be worth the wait. Thanks to Phil, Hymee and Sco for the privelage of being your test pilot!

stupid question time again..

In one of your orignal master plans, everything was to fit under the engine cover... Is this still the case??

What we are showing now doesn't fit under the original engine cover. The intercooler and the intake tube saw to that. WIldcard wanted something to show for it!

Cheers,
Hymee.

Ok.. so, full boost at 50% throttle... is there any plan to try and get the *whole* throttle plate useful? is it at 10PSI from 2K to 9K at 50% ?

Thanks Card! I was sort of hoping you might post something before I did LOL!

Sorry to hear about your puncture on the way back. At least it wasn't a blower item

I hope all your mates (who have been more interested in the project than you) have been excited to see it finally!

Cheers,
Hymee.

The *whole* throttle is required up top for air flow. He is talking about lower RPM where the air flow doesn't require 100% throttle.

Cheers,
Hymee.

hymee would it work to mount the supercharger at 45deg or 90deg and take the intake out underneath? seems like the air flow has lots of 90deg bends in it.

Since you have to get air to the blower through the throttle plate first in order for it to compress it I don't see how you can get boost at lower throttle settings without installing a much larger throttlebody which isn't necessarily a good thing. The whole throttle plate is useful. Just put your foot down farther. You don't want or need 10 psi at 10% throttle.

At low engine speeds, 50% throttle corresponds to almost 100% load. That's on the standard NA engine. So why should it be different with the S/C?

Nothing wrong with that Hymee.

Re LHD, I don't see much problem. Having looked at both LHD and RHD, the engine bay looks very similar except for the brake system and washer bottle.
Hymee sends me a development kit tomorrow, I get it on Monday morning. I fit it on Tuesday, and Wednesday, the LHD AND 4-port conversions are ready...

Fabrice

I'm guessing www.mazdaparts.com since they carry the Hymee catback, Hymee sCANalyser, and Hymee Oil Cooler/AC Condenser screens
