Oooo....this is starting to look good :)

hoss -05 01-30-2011 12:27 AM

Thanks Jamaalsmith! I should be seeing you soon.

I should be seeing some good #s after all is said and done. I want lots and Lots of usable power.

hoss -05 02-01-2011 11:45 PM

SC Shipped! I now may have to come up with a small oil cooling system for the SC set up. Hymee switched to a Closed oiling system on the SC at the end of the run.

Being that I live in a very hot environment I may hook up a small oil cooler and pump. Any thoughts on this?

dondo 02-02-2011 12:35 AM

i'd say just monitor temps and adjust after the fact if necessary. good start so far though!

That might work, but it also seems like it might be easier to plan ahead. Since the car will already be apart, he can figure out how to best incorporate the additional equipment instead of having to figure it out as an after thought.

The biggest question, basically, is whether or not it will be an issue in this hot weather. It might be better to ere on the side of caution with something like this, but someone more knowledgable on the topic might be able to give more helpful advice.

Jamaalsmith 02-02-2011 06:23 AM

Hoss, i agree with 8... might as well plan ahead, specially if the car is in pieces right now...of course you can do it any way you wish. I still have some cooling issues to address. The Greddy Oil pan is where im going to start...might install a tertiary oil cooler when i begin to track the car as well as vented hood.

9krpmrx8 02-02-2011 10:19 AM

Well, we will determine what route we take when we have the unit in hand. We definitely do not want to burn up the unit and installing a small pump and reservoir is a pretty simple security blanket for the SC.

Additional engine cooling is being addressed with radiators and oil cooler mods. I'll go out on a limb and state right now that this car will be one of the sickest supercharged 8's around when the build is finished. This car will serve a purpose on and off the track. But don't count my 8 out either ;)

hoss -05 02-04-2011 09:20 AM

Ha Ha I don't think anyone ever would count you out of the game 9K.

More parts ordered! This time a center transmission brace and rear diff brace by Beatrush.

buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzy!! lol:)

Ha it should not be to bad. Not like doing hard motor mounts anyway. Should not be able to hear it over the SC wine anyway.

Hey JamaalSmith. it was nice talking to you yesterday... sorry we just missed eachother :( Next time you are at Kaf we will meet up for sure.

Hoss, you bet brother. We'll def rap when i get back in country...and when you come back LOL
What kind of Radiator are you thinking of upgrading to?

olddragger 02-05-2011 09:01 AM

on the chassis bracing--i remember some folks that installed them, also used a hard rubber washer between them and the chassis--which they claimed helped a lot with nvh.
it would be nice to put an 09 oil pan on and the undershassis panels off an 09?
DOing the mazmart oil pressure regulator mod? DO it! And use the 09 oil filter for the higher bypass pressure.
If you really want a car changer, and i am serious here, source a 09 trans and install. Its a bolt in and it changes the car sooooo much and its a really good thing. The gearing seems like its made for the powerband you should have.

I have a way of making our motor mounts into a poly mount while keeping the safety breakaway function that mazda designed into it. That mount is more complex than you would think. A lot of thought went into it. Changing over to them noticebaly improves throttle response and does away with gearshifter movement. If you watch rx8 track videos in which the gearshift is visable you will see what i mean. It moves a good inch with acceleration and deceleration.
Nice build going on--wish i was there to help--looks like fun!!.
Watching with excitement.
damn--i need to get out more:)

Hey OD did you check out my parts list? I am doing some stuff to my oil system. I have always wanted to play with the the stock oil thermostats.

I did notice a ton of shifter movement and lots of vibration so ordered the OEM newer PN# mounts. I think it will help when paired with the extra drive train mounts. Thanks for the tip on the rubber washers I will give it a try.

I don't think I will be running the 09+ under panels as well... other things are going to happen there but ill keep it in mind just in case.

The members of SARX would love to have you down for the install OD. Ill keep an eye out for the 09+ trans but will most likely be picking up a second engine first.

9krpmrx8 02-05-2011 03:08 PM

There is an 09' tranny with 10k on it for sale here and the guy is in Texas :)

hoss -05 02-06-2011 02:28 AM

O yeah... details 9K?

Now to ditch the progress springs and install the coil-overs and everything else. It's gonna be a busy week :)

Definitively gonna keep a close eye to this thread. Have been doing some research to see if/when this is doable for me.

Do anyone know if this SC- kit does anything with(manage) the ports in the intake, like opening aux port at high RPM and so on? Can remember Jamaal having a huge potential for his setup, if that was possible. I didn't quite get what the problem were for managing ports on his setup...

It uses and reprograms the stock ECU . Only reason Jamaal had that issue was because the exhaust piping interfered with the APV valve motor and they had to remove the motor for it to clear .

9krpmrx8 02-08-2011 02:01 PM

^ What he said :)

Ah, I see. Read the thread two times and still overlooked it....

Reason I was wondering is that dyno shows that the pettit SC has less torque than some of the turbos, for example yours, Dont really get why? Do you or anyone know/have a theory?

Brettus 02-08-2011 08:42 PM

/\ Turbos generally make more torque due to the ability to reach higher boost earlier plus they have less parasitic drag.

AAaF 02-09-2011 04:10 AM

When looking at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parasitic_drag I understand it to be flow resistance. I don't see any reason why a turbo should have less flow resistance, so I guess I got it wrong?

If you want to learn about turbos and superchargers start your own thread please. kthxbi.
