Hoss -05's build thread.
This is the build thread for my 2005 RX-8. My car is a 2005 with a little over 60k (Raul). I am on my Third engine all mazda remans. The current engine has less then 10k miles however a new one is being built. I premix with every tank. 9krpmrx8 has been a big part build and I would not have had the motivation to go forward with out him. I would also like to thank Grungepup and Cornholio for there help and knowledge. Below you will find in a very unorganized fashion the parts going into the build. Most of the factory sensors and ancillary engine components like the starter, ac pump and alternator are being replaced with new denso units. Great start . Look forward to seeing your progress .

Very Nice!

Thin tires :p:
|
Thin tires Thanks guys... i am very excited for this build as well. I want to really do things the right way. On another note I would also like to thank Grungepup. He has helped me a ton as well. I really could not have even start this build if it were not for Him and 9k. |
Too bad I wasn't here this AM when the FedEx guy came :( Now I have to wait until Tuesday to see the coilovers and sways :) I will be doing some work on Raul tomorrow though, I'll keep you posted.
|
Stance have good stuff. but if you're really after "performance" you should go for "at least" KW's Variant 3
Anyway ... most important ... PICTURES ! or it didn't happen ! |

Nope stock stance spring rates for now. Ill bump up the spring rates if need be later. I am fairly sure I will be happy with the suspension for awhile. At this moment I do not need separately adjustable rebound and compression. Just more set up time that way and I really want to get Raul focused as quick as I can.
|
So a question. I really think I should get my injectors serviced but do I need more flow? I Thought about doing the KG parts mod and service but am wondering if it would be to much flow.
|
They can clean and flow match them, without making them drastically larger.
|
Before body work, The front bumper and door needed some work.

nice build good luck in future..

Okay, so I went to change the tranny fluid to Redline MT-90 and found this :( Looks like someone has been in there before. The gasket was trashed but nothing a little Loctite RTV didn't fix :) Raul shifts very smooth now :)

Was there any noticeable issues with shifting as a result of the gasket? Wonder how that happened... even if someone was working on it before, I cant see how they would make a mistake like that without realizing it.

Yes there was a noticeable difference, I actually changed it because going from my car to his car, I noticed the shifting was weird and making some noises. I am pretty sure it was from changing the fluid and not from fixing the gasket though. His old fluid actually looked pretty clean for 64,000 miles but the shifter was a little noisy and clunky. We will be doing the clutch soon as well. |
I never really felt my shifter had a problem. It always had sounded a little different then most of the other 8s I have driven or rode in. I can not really say it had a different feel in the shift action though.
I ordered my wide band o2 and data logging cable last night. I would like to pick up the Re-Medy thermostat and water pump. Any of the the FI guys still running with the stock radiator or think I would have need to change it out? |

Yeah he really needs new motor mounts.
The Clutch, sways, end links, coilovers O2 and data logging cable should all be shipped in this week as well... The two things im most excited to see, The rims finally go on and pics of this crazy clutch set up. Glad to hear he is back in the shop 9k. Is it still just those two issues? Things are going good with tubing champ and I am sure we will get the SC unit shipped very soon! |
cool build and congrats on that hymee kit, hope it all works out for you.

BTW - are you planning to run the AP or the Hymee PT ? |

Went thru another's thread about this supercharger. Seems the Factory Strut Bar will not fit with this on. I believe the Strut Bar I have stands taller than the factory and I bought them as a set (front/rear) for $109 off ebay. I know some people say the front strut bar is not necessary but I personally would not run without it... just sayin...

Well maybe we can take yours off for a test fit :)

Looks Good Cornholio! I have also seen twin braces that go to the firewall from the stock strut mounting location. I dont remember if i have seen one for the 8 or not though.
My suspension should be in in the morning~! |

Not sure on the bar.... Ill post it when I come across it.
Anyway I added a Cob and GoodBox to my parts list. My goal is to only have one "gauge". |

Yeah that may have been it Mike. Not sure..... that thing looks nice! I wont have to worry about it getting in the way as my oil filter will be under my car soon :)

I am currently working things out with Tubingchamp on picking up his Hymee super charger. Everything is going Great so far :) ~ (I have heard it was a bigger blower, it could be the Autorotor equivalent of the Lysholm MX-420 or MX-422.) |
Soooooooo....... Look what we got delivered today :)

WOW That looks Great 9k. Could you get a pic of the clutch disk... I have allways wondered what it looked like. Ha I can see all the boxes in the background. Sorry guys lol.
What size or model blower is used by the Hymee kit? (I have heard it was a bigger blower, it could be the Autorotor equivalent of the Lysholm MX-420 or MX-422.) |

Not sure what unit it is off the top of my head. I knew at one time... Anyway it is 2.1L. http://www.harborfreight.com/450-lb-...ack-39178.html Edited because I am retarded. |

The clutch actually came mounted to the flywheel. I would have to disassemble. Do you think they installed it on the flywheel to spec? BTW, I saw the perfect tranny jack at harbor freight (hint hint)
http://www.harborfreight.com/450-lb-...ack-39178.html you will need to disassemble to mount it regardless because the flywheel gets bolted to the engine. |

cutting no corners. this looks like one hell of a build in a short time
|
SARX baby :) That's how we roll. Next build thread will be mine :)
|
You are correct on one thing mscamp02. I will not be cutting any corners.
It looks like a quick build time but it really is not. I have been working toward an FI goal for many many months now but laying low. I was largely undecided about My FI of choice and even tried to make an appointment to see Corky Bell about doing a turbo kit for me. Then Tubingchamp's SC came up for sale and I could not pass on a chance to own that bad boy. There are many more months to go before everything is ready and we are really going to take our time with the test and tune portion. EVERYTHING will be data logged, documented and done the right way. I am still very undecided on what I am going to do with the exhaust, engine coolant solutions and maybe some trick coatings by Swain. A bit portly though. |

:O its only two more pounds then your set up and not bad for a 10" rim with 265s. Your build thread will be Epic 9k.
|
Definitely not heavy for the tire/wheel sizes. Will there be any fitment issues or will you be able to avoid rubbing with that offset?
|
There should be Zero fitment issues. +42 is not aggressive. (was told by the Rishi that its actually = +38 to the stock size... something about the width. I did not really get it) I am also using 265's and they are just a little bit of a streach on a 10" rim.
I am also not going to go very low. My goal is about a half inch lower then it has been with the progressive springs. I also dont want more then -2.5* camber in the rear if I can at all help it. |
