EMU has a voltage clamp - and the int-x is MAP only; so they both work ok.

Even with the EMU I got a lot of backfires; only one stall though.

I use an HKS VTA.
No idle issues and the rich state after venting is pretty much a non-issue, other than the sometimes spectacular fireballs at speed.

Maybe a combo - bad coils and plugs + extra richness from the VTA BOV?

my 3071R install was flawless. Then again, MazdaManiac personally installed it. So go figure. Went from NA to 3071R plus upgraded fuel injectors, street tuning, and a day of dyno tuning.

well, that's the short of it. the longer story was NA to greddy, greddy to NA (dealer installs a new transmission), then NA to 3071R. Then 3071R to engine rebuild. After rebuild I go back to NA to get an exhaust leak fixed on the greddy manifold, and that is where I am at now.

The transmission issue existed before the turbo, dealership couldn't work on the car while it had the turbo and no cat installed, so that's why that was done - it wasn't removed to fool them or anything.

I'm actually going back to turbo, unfortunately I sold my 3071R kit to someone to recoup the engine rebuild costs. We all know how exclusive the 3071R kit is, so it wouldn't be easy to get it back. This time around I'll be going to a top mount. It'll end up being a custom kit though. I will likely want to get a 3071R for the top mount by the time I'm done.

edit: Also while this sounds like a pain in the *** and a lot of problems, this summation is over several years. If you use the AP, have proper tuning and don't dial up the boost to crazy numbers, I think turbo is a smooth ride. I just happened to have a transmission that had issues (I used royal purple GL5), the greddy manifold developed a crack along the way, and the engine had issues once I had the mazsport upgraded coils/mazsport tuning. If I had not gotten the coil upgrade I believe I would still have the 3071R installed and not gotten an engine rebuild.

Well - my install went like clockwork - car ran like a champ . Till i upped the boost then tracked the car and ignored the warning misfires - Yay for me .

Anyway , I have a cracked manifold as well ( about the fourth or fifth i've heard of on here ) so that is an issue .

Also to say you can install a turbo and not have issues is kinda like saying if I go downtown with a loaded gun and start pointing it at everyone I wont have any issues .

Maybe someone onto their 5th or 6th install could do it but most people are going to have one or more issues to deal with - just expect it and deal with whatever comes up .

there are different levels of issues.

- You can have issues with the install, missing parts, unable to get it to work, etc.

- You can have issues with tuning, just not running right

- Issues with hardware breaking on you, or stuff falling apart over time. Vacuum line falling off, couplers leaking, etc.

- Vehicle issues from engine damage, or getting worn out.

To me the biggest headache with going FI is worry. Is the engine OK? Am I going to need a rebuild? Is the tuning off? Then again, we're all used to the RX-8 and even NA people have these same fears.

Gregs if I read a post right you said your STFT was -12%? That's way low, you need a new MAF calibration. You want your STFT at idle to be as close to 0 as possible.

are you sure that is a maf calibration issue ?
Mine settles at -14.8 . I assumed it was to do with the turbo/pipeing upsetting the mixture rather than the maf actually reading wrong

The Mazsport Cai was designed for the sole purpose of running the cobb ap and greddy kit...Try to post some pics of your setup, that will help...
