I had disconnected the battery to clear the CEL. After connecting the battery back, I had "DSC OFF" and "traction light" blinking. I tried turn left turn right process and the DSC OFF went away, but the traction light is still on. Now if I try to turn DSC off, I do not get any DSC OFF on the display. Any suggestions?

actually the traction control light wont go till you back up for the first time then restart.
the steering light will be left to right same with the dsc (then restart)
start the car for the battery light and turbo the engine to make the engine light go away....

yep, got it to disappear last night. did not have to move the car at all. I found the following in the quick reference guide:
"start the car, turn left to lock position, turn right to lock position, shut the engine off and then turn it back on".
"start the car, turn left to lock position, turn right to lock position, shut the engine off and then turn it back on".

^..................imagine that, it's actually documented in the manual and the quick reference guide! Who would've thought! Are you sure it says "start the car" at that first step? I thought it just said to turn the key to the "on" position?
I always do this reset without starting the car.

You are right, it just says "ignition on". I did start the car though.

DSC Light
Hi,
I myself am experiencing some issues with my RX-8. My battery is starting to go on me but on top pf that I had to replace the terminals and eliminated some corrusion. I found the quick refrence guide online and followed the steps but I seem to keep having issues with the traction control light and DSC light. Earlier today I disconnected my battery and reconnected and followed the steps from the guide. Still having issues and not sure what do next? (2004 Mazda Rx-8, 69,500 Miles).

Not sorry for digging up an old thread.
Anyway, it you see the DSC/TC OFF icon as shown in the OP, your voltage dropped significantly, sometimes dropping as low as 9V. This can be accounted to a dead cell within the battery, or just a bad battery overall. Age does not indicate battery health. My battery is not even a year old and it's dying on me in the same manner.
I saw the same DSC/TC OFF light on my dash after a difficult start. In addition, I got a piggyback ECU to which I got into with my diagnostics, and it gave over 300!!! events of "Battery Voltage too low for operation (sub 10V).
As the car cranked for 10 seconds, you could see the voltage drop to sub 10V for a second, climb back to around 11 and only when it hit 11+ Volts it would actually start.
During other events when I had to crank long, when the RPM's reached around 400rpm, and I released the key, it took a second at 400rpm, and right after jumped to 1500rpm and the car started. It could be that the battery is too weak while it delivers all the amps to the starter, that it simply cannot fire the injectors and spark plugs to their full capacity. I had it happen that the engine would simply flood during starts, and it would only start after 5 seconds of cranking and then slamming the pedal to the floor to start the car. The car started immediately with the fuel supply cut off. Go figure.
RX-8's need good batteries, and account to lots of starting problems. Even an old 2KW starter can contribute to starting problems. I replaced my starter with the identical but new 2KW one and it starts significantly better.
