Upgrading the wires alone won't make a difference, we usually swap for better coils and wires altogether.
Wonder who makes them? Bhr!
May I ask you where are you from? You say that you have an EUDM rx8 and from your nick i guess that you're from spain ort portugal... am I right?

The coils are those 4 boxes that give the spark to spark plugs, I don't speak portuguese so I don't know how to put it in a simpler way!
Here's the link for the upgraded ones
Nice to see a fellow european member here though!

Does anyone know if Greddy has sorted the problems that came with the kit originally? I know for example that now the kits come with the e-manage ultimate, but does that mean that they now also control ignition as well as fuel?
Have they sorted the problem with the turbo over spinning?
I ask because i'm looking at getting the kit but no plans on modifying it unless it's unsafe out of the box. The only thing i would plan on doing is having it re-mapped. Can the e-manage ultimate control ignition with the harness Greddy provides or would i have to look into other forms of engine management?

Sounds promising.

Do you know if they said anything about ignition control now aswell?

Rev2Red - Spend more time reading now and you will spend less time faultfinding/rebuilding your engine later .........seriously .

Hi Brettus. I know how important is is to do your own research, and i think i have done quite a bit on the renesis engine, although i know there is always a lot more to learn. I only asked about the greddy kits problems being resolved because i haven't actually found anything about it. I know that there are fixes for it, i was just wondering if greddy has done anything about it. I also ask about the e-manage ultimate controlling ignition, because if it doesn't, then i was going to go with the AP, although i might even go with the AP anyway because i know the EMU isn't the greatest out there.

GReddy has changed absolutely nothing in the kit since 2006.
All of the e-Manage issues remain the same (even though they made some small changes to the tuning along the way) and all of the boost control, air metering and oiling problems remain.

I actually read all 16 pages(was actually a good read to be honest), but I have a question myself. Is there anything you have to do to the engine before you can add a turbo to it? Can the engine handle a greddy turbo stock? Sorry if I worded this weird.

Why are none of the answers in the OP answered? A FAQ without answers doesn't make sense considering this is stickied.

1. What is included?
The turbo, emanage, piping, brackets, etc. No BOV, but you can purchase one separate. Everything necessary to put the turbo on and start driving is included.

2. What additional items are recommended?
Blow off valve and boost gauge as minimums. An external wide-band O2 system is highly recommended.

3. What additional items are nice to have?
A boost controller. Many people upgrade the silicone couplers to thicker, more robust items. There is also minimum heat sheilding included and there is a great need for much more.

4. What problems have people experienced? What are the probable causes and remedies?
Beside operator error and installation screw-ups, the kit has a few weak spots.
The manifold ofen develops cracks, especially if the boost level is elevated above the preset target. The intercooler blocks air flow to the radiator, which can cause overheating in warmer climates. Boost control can be problematic because the wasegate flap is small as is the actuator. The gasket between the turbo and the discharge elbow is often distored. The oil drain is problematic in that it is very difficult to install it correctly, causing leaks.

5. What has been done to the eManage to make it work with our cars? How many versions and when were they released?

6. Can't you reprogram the eManage map?

7. What software do you need to use to load/tune maps?

8. What are the different maps available? What do they do and how were they changed from previous versions?
There were several different updtes to the e-Manage Ultimate's hardware and software over the course of the years following he introduction of the kit.
Ultimately (no pun intended), the e-Manage was not a particularly effective way to control the PCM, especially if the kit was modified in any manner.
There are far better solutions available today then there were 6 ears ago.

9. What's a typical install time?
Typical install time is around 10-12 hours. It may be possible to do it faster or it may take longer.

10. What are typical installation labor rates?
Between $1000-$2400

11. What else should I know about this kit or turbos in general?
There are many, many, many threads, books, articles, postings and rants about turbos and forced induction in general here and elsewhere.

12. What type of turbo does the kit use?
It is a GReddy prorietary version of the Mitsubushi TD06-18g.

13. How much boost does it provide?
The wastegate actuator is set for 6 PSI. Actual manifold pressure will be dependent on many different factors.

14. Will my gas mileage be effected by the turbo?
Not directly.

15. How much boost can the base kit handle?
As it is shipped, it will only produce 6 PSI, With boost management, it is possible to get quite a bit more until the exhaust flow overcomes the wastegate apparatus, usually around 7k RPM.

16. Will adding a turbo affect the long term reliability of the car?
Possibly. Engines have a finite number of "puffs" in their lifetime. Making those puffs bigger means fewer puffs.

17. Do I need to build up the internals of the engine to handle the boost?
No.

18. What air/fuel ratios does the kit run?
The delivered e-Manage was generally setup for 11.5:1, but many things affected that adversely.

19.What is the safest/most reliable afr that gets the best HP?
11.3:1

20. What octane fuel is recommended with forced induction?
91 AKI as a minimum with as little ethanol as possible.

21. Can I use a high flow cat or straight pipe with forced induction?
Yes

22. Will forced induction void my vehicle's factory warranty?
YES

Thank you sir!! Searching through these threads is murder. Brettus, RG posted those questions in the OP but only a couple were ever answered. I just found it odd to have a FAQ and the questions posted years ago but little answers. I am surprised it took this long for someone to ask

sorry for bumping an old thread, just couldn't find answers anywhere. Will this turbo kit work on a 2011 rx8? I thought it was a carry-over model of the 2010 but I read somewhere that the ECU has been changed therefore can no longer take the turbo?

There is no tuning solution available for a 2011 that is readily available. No, this kit will not work out of the box on a series II RX-8.

However, with enough money a stand alone is always a solution.

Notice, in the ancient post you quoted, I said "you". Not "I".

I had the GReddy base tune unlocked the day I got it.
