I wanted to thank golf and ray (rx8club members) for helping out. I'll be taking the car to the 1/4 mile track on 3/16. I'll post results.
One last question for people with the kit in.
Where do you install the bracket to that is supposed to hold the airnix? It seems stable enough and I left it off.

i used one of the bolts holding the bottom portion of the factor air box in. I would definitely put it in if you can, it may not seem like it but that keeps the entire front part from vibrating.

No cel yet.
I've only got about 50miles on it. It started to rain last night and I work today. I haven't switched the 2 mesh screens from the stock intake onto the greddy intake (like philodox did), but I'll try that if one does pop up.
I know which bolt your talking about on the bottom of the intake, but the bracket is still a good inch from lining up with the intake. I may just make a new hole for it to be secure.

Where the air is rare
I finished my install Monday night...and the difference is amazing. The boost comes on early, in the mid 2K RPM range and is well in by 3K. It's a very, very different driving experience. You can literally blow thru traffic with very little throttle and shifting in the 4K range.
Still waiting for my BOV and fittings...

Sounds great!
So you did the install yourself?

Yes, I installed it myself in the garage. I used jackstands front and rear. The front passenger stand I placed forward, near the front A-arm. This way it wasn't in the way while wrestling the exhaust and plumbing around.

I've had my kit on for about 30 mi so far and I have a cell. I did use the GReddy air pump gasket. Think that has anything to do with it. I can feel the boost building at mid 2k but I'm shifting around 3k till the BOV goes on. Almost seems like the E manage is tuned too rich, I'm getting hellish back fires when I let off the throttle. When first installed it sat and idled for about 10 min with no CEL. On the drive home it started flashing periodically. Now it stays on all the time till I get out on the freeway and then it starts flashing again.

I believe philodox got rid of his CEL by using the stock airpump gasket, the hole is just too small. I don't remember what CEL code he had. You'll need a OBII reader to get the code if that doesn't work.
Also, I reinstalled the vfad sensor connector to the green plug that was left over after taking the stock intake off. It's not used anymore, but it may throw a CEL if left unpluged. I'll get a picture later tonight.
Are you sure it's backfiring and not just the pressurized air going back out the turbo after you let off the gas? If you don't have a BOV, the trap air will make a noise after each shift, instead of the pssht sound if you do have a BOV. It sounds kindof like a turkey gobbling, can't really describe it, I'll try to get a sound clip of that also.
Backfiring is more of a popping noise out of the exhaust. I had it for awhile after installing my borla.

Could be something very minor, like the gas cap not tight enough on some cars. But if it came on right after the turbo install it may be due to an air leak in the piping, bad emanage software, so many other things.

The bogging is just how the map was setup. If you look at philodox's dyno the hp curve dips down pretty bad in one spot. Hopefully someone comes up with a smoother map in the future.
I got my BOV and catchcan put in today.
Also, I uploaded some other install pictures here.

Picture of the intercooler with the bumper on. And the engine bay with bov, catchcan.
I have noticed the backfiring has increased. Especially when I'm cruising or low rpms in high gears.

I have around 250 miles on my kit now. I'm still waiting on my BOV parts (SSQV, adaptor flanges, etc.), and the support tool. I have no detonation, driveability issues, CELs, or anything to really complain about. That is, other than the rattling when closing the throttle and the boost is up. That is a short term issue.

also, are you experiencing any bogging in the hi 3K's?

yes, the type s is what i'm using, there are hose adapters available for the outlet (too make it smaller than it is. I then bought another adapter and had it welded to the intake pipe. Not much bogging
