actually I can get it for $960-980 new. A friend works in the industry. $1100 sounds about right, so I used the $1000 value as an inbetween

Would it be possible to buy a used Greddy kit just for the plumbing and go direct to a better turbo, like say a GT2871R? You could then sell the Greddy-supplied snail and make a few bucks back, and probably get a decent setup for relatively cheap.

If I upgrade to the GT2871R turbo, what else do I need?

Fuel pump? injectors?

Yes, that would be a good option. The problem is most used kits with the EMU (not the Blue) ared over $2500 used and have a lot of miles on them, so you can just pay the extra $600 and get a brand spanken new kit. You aren't saving a whole bunch. But you can make most of the money you spend on the 2871 back buy selling the brand new GReddy T18Z snail. GReddy's MSRP on that turbo is around $1450, but the street price is more like $1200.

Yes and yes. If you want to make more power than the GReddy snail, which is why you would upgrade it in the first place.

If you are looking for 300+ whp, with room to grow. That is NOT the Greddy kit. Even in going with the standard kit, if you want it to be pretty reliable you are talking about the cost of the kit, & IMO swapping out the Emanage junk, upgrading the injectors (past 300 whp), upgrading the couplers, getting the BOV, etc., etc. Given a choice if I had to do it over again I would have RAN from the Greddy kit. To many much better choices out there now. When all is said & done the $8K for Mazsport's kit would have seemed cheap in comparison to the mental anguish of dealing with Greddy.
