damn.. that exhaust looks way better than stock.
are you planning to make some new exhaust headers that flow better (so you can remove the sleeves and open it even more)?
Course.. if u did that, pressure would drop significantly.

As far as headers go, I might be working on something.

well, snoochie has volunteered, once again to be the guinea pig and let me do the big porting on his motor. i'm hoping for 185-190 this time, since the intake is opened up a bit more.
if i get started tomorrow, it'll hopefully be done this weekend (unless something else comes up), then dyno results with and without tuning next weekend.
i think we can hit maybe 220-230whp after it's tuned. WOOHOO!!

After studying the exhaust ports as well as the factory exhaust manifold, I think I can tell why aftermarket headers haven't done much. The stock manifold does flow really badly. I can even fathom why it was done that way. However, if it still flows better than the stock exhaust ports, of course it won't hurt flow that much. When the exhaust ports flow better, it'll start to matter more. Once I get my engine, I'll test all of this to verify it. Right now this is just speculation.

Hey Snoochie - did you get a piggyback ECU? I don't recall seeing any discussion other than what you should get.
Thanks for putting it all on the line for the good of the forum. Also thanks to guitarjunkie for sharing his hard work so openly. This is the most interesting thread to read on the forum (other than the SE region's track day at Road Atlanta thread)

but we're all here to teach and learn from eachother. i hope more guys like rg expound on this and figure more stuff out.

Personally I wouldn't go bigger with the ports at this time. Bigger isn't always better. Try to get the most out of what you have before you try to go larger. What if going larger gets you less? It can happen! Play with the tuning, exhaust, and intake. Experiment in these areas first.

We didn't tune it with the street port because I didn't wanna pay dyno time when I'm not going to be using it. Plus I don't know what the hell I'm doing anyways. But the car is in Dave's hands right now... We're gonna go catless with the car down and see what it's like. If it's rediculous I can put the cat back on and whatnot. BTW is there a way that you can put a faux can over a straight pipe so that at a visual inspection I won't get a ticket for not having a cat?

I just don't feel like having a 2500 fine for a visually not having a cat. I don't think the cop is gonna be like, "lemme jack that up and take it apart to see if you hollowed that mug out"
Thanks a load for the info this sounds like a good idea.

Sooo when I "punch out the catalyst grids and hollow out my cat" and by this I mean have someone else do it...
rotflmao!!!!!
i can do that, but i won't. you're gonna do it while i drink newcastle and tell you to work faster :D
but i'd rather not waste a perfectly good cat. somebody sell us a straightpipe.

sure... whatever your pleasure. i'd like to get the pipe made, but leave it off until after the first dyno with the new porting--that way i get unbiased results up on the website. after that, we'll have at it.
