FI 101 Please shed some light here

I am looking for the biggest gain in power for straits on the highway. I am looking to pull away as quickly as possible which would be better for this situation. A turbo or SC and which company would you recommend for this product.

Thank you

Turbo is generally faster than a s/c at the same PSI.

You're question is WAY too general to give you a direct answer. All I can say is the search button is your friend.

You need to tell us what your goals are and how much money you have to spend. There are other supporting mods and cost of instalation that play a role in the kit you choose.

Sorry for 101 post ill step it up

Ill have between 2k-3.5k to spend on a SC or turbo. I dont plan on getting anything else except a lightweight flywheel, intake, exhaust other than that i keep hearing FI is the only way to gain serious power. Any thoughts on what to go with SC or Turbo with 2k-3.5k to spend? My goal is to pull away on the streets and/or highway.

well, with your proposed budget, you will either need to look at used equipment, or go wtih the greddy kit, but you will have to install it yourself. plus, there are going to be other cost involved with the kit, such as tuning, boost guage, etc. i would also recommend that unless you have a secondary car, to take your 2 to 3.5k and get one, then save for the turbo, so incase something goes wrong, you wont be totally without a car

btw, you wont find any straits on the highway

Even buying used, you will usually have to blow around 5k for components and install, then tuning. And this is for the greddy turbo kit which costs 3.3k range new, 2k used with misc upgrades.

There is nothing cheaper available, so next step up would be 6k for the kit + gauges + install + tuning, etc, which will easily be over 8k range once it's on your car and running nicely.

The real problem with having a 2-3k budget is in the event that your engine/transmission or some other part breaks. You'll have to drop a lot of cash to get your car functioning again...

The Greddy's probably the way to go with that budget. Several people on this Forum have the setup and there are several threads devoted to perfecting it for each person's individual needs. It's the cheapest, and has the biggest knowledge base (you'll find dozens of people on here that have it), and you might get lucky and find one for sale on this forum.

Definitely SEARCH. This particular part of the forum is LOADED with info on the Greddy kit in particular. Just look at the sticky threads.

Here's one for sale right here:

Good luck

...as little as $3,200, or as much as $10,000+...

Better to have $6,500 dollars ready... Unless you are a mechanic and/or don't mind a hell of a lot of trouble. However greddy is the way to go, if you are trying to save money.

Once you get in that $6,500 range or towards $10,000 dollars there are a number of other turbo options besides greddy, as well as the supercharger option(s).

Pettit twinscrew supercharger (and maybe one day the Hymee or Axialflow supercharger) is a good option if you want less install headaches, ECU flash, good low rpm boost that keeps going till redline, power cuts in like factory and evenly but just more of it, and fine with the 300HP to 350HP range.

Dude. Not cool copying off my website:

Also, it's not like I wrote an amazing document. Surely you could have written it better instead of copying.

How about thinking outside the box. Have you considered nitrous? That sounds like it would fit you application and it would be easier & cheaper to install.

Hmm.. I didin't think it would be a problem. I did edit a little but not much.

I am not making money on this website or profiting in any way what so ever. I figured it would be a good idea to have all the best information in one location to help people out.

I've had a bunch of stuff I've written get posted to other sites. I don't care as long as no one is making money off of it by using it on a business site.

You know what they say.

It's better to ask for forgiveness than permission. lol

All joking aside. I never thought it would be an issue. The page has been deleted from my site.

cool thanks.

I don't make money off my site either. I just put it up so I have something to point to when people ask for install costs.

With that budget, I would seriously consider nitrous. The initial kit, install, tuning, you are looking at the lower end of your budget, and it will give you some nice pop, and is not linearly based.

If you are talking about a total budget of $3500 max, even the Greddy is out of your budget.

It's okay. You also copied MazdaManiac's post in in the thread he authored word-for-word, and I'm sure you didn't ask for permission for that, either. You need to come up with original material
