Cool Extra boost from Greddy

I am considering a manual bleed valve as opposed to an electronic boost controller. Not only is cost a consideration, but since I am only after 1 or 2 more #s of boost (whatever the stock injectors can handle), I should be able to dial that in, tune, and leave it alone after that.

Has anyone else gone this route?

A manual boost controller will alter the boost pressrue but not the boost curve. An electronic controller can alter the boost pressure and curve. In other words, if you have pressure falling off up top now, you will still have boost falling off up top with a manual controller. An electronic boost controller can account for this though.

What boost level are you looking for ? I have 7.5 lbs. right now without the other controllers. Mechanic said I can probably go to 8 psi on the next go around, without the EBC. Unless you are looking at 10 lbs., then I would also get the upgraded injectors, you probably won't need the MBV or EBC.

Cool. How are you going to get 8# of boost? Are you mucking with the wastegate actuator? What is working for you, & how? Thanks!

This is a bit of a problem, but I imagine there would be a fair amount of time/cost to buy/install/tune an electronic boost controller?

Not really. A simple Profec-B should hold boost all the way to redline with no programming.

I am also getting a little over 7 psi without using a boost controller. We just shortened the rod on the wastegate. I also got Denso 1-step colder plugs too, just in case.
I spike occasionally up to 8.5, but I really like my current tune. May get a Profec B installed anyway for future applications.

Since the boost drops off gradually wouldn't you need a boost controller that is able to adjust at different RPMS? The Profec E-01 can do this but not the Profec B or B spec II.

Re: E-01 update for RX8 emanage

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It might make the boost a little more consistent, but for keeping a steady 7 PSI, the E-01 would be much better. The B Spec II will still drop a little, but not as drastic as stock. The only way to adjust that is with the gain setting on the boost controller. The E-01 actually has an RPM offset where you can adjust the boost at different RPM points.

If you do your shopping around, it's only $100 more.
$270 for Profec B spec II (ebay) and $370 for E-01 (cheap site. ) Then add $25 for pressure harness and usb cable.

This is kind've like the dilemma I am in right now. I am running 7.5 lbs. of boost, and can get about another .5 lbs pretty reliably. In talking with my mechanic, I would need to get the RX8 wiring diagram ($60) & upgraded fuel injectors including the Electronic Boost Controller (Apexi) I have sitting in a box right now. He said unless I'm looking to go to 10 psi, there really is no reason to put this on. When I do that I will have to get the other stuff (injectors). To balance out the top end, it's not really worth it right now. I really like my car at 7.5 psi, not sure I want to run it at 10 psi & sacrifice reliability. Anybody want to buy an extra Apexi boost controller ? :D
