more please :worship:

Just started collecting some parts for this kit, cant wait till summer :)

mysql 03-30-2008 02:54 PM

need to show rpm and mph!

and a wot from low rpm so we can see spool time

staticlag 03-30-2008 02:56 PM

Well, I had a catless midpipe on before this. And with the turbo on now it sounds stock. I get the rich sound of the REV8 - exhaust again!. Its really incredibly quiet for not having a cat.

When the wastegate to atmosphere opens it sounds as loud as my car did with the catless midpipe on.

It's been a great few drives, just cruising along at 3K, then I hit the gas, and by 4K its spooled up and the wastegate is blaring. Scares the hell out of people around me!!!

There was a mustang GT with me on the interstate. He pulled alongside me and gave me a rev. I floored it, the turbo spooled up, wastegate blared. I pulled a car's length on him.

Then I let off and the giagantic "woosh" of the Tial BOV let out. and he just backed off.

Exactly what I wanted!!!!

Perfectly stock for daily drive, but when you floor it, all hell breaks loose!!!

The turbo gives it so much torque, that I haven't seen a reason to go above 4K for normal driving!

Awesome!!! I definetly recommend this turbo kit to anyone looking for the same goals as me! = Very stock for daily drive, but a monster when you get on it!

mysql 03-30-2008 02:58 PM

yep, turbos = torque :)

time to hit the dyno and get it tuned so you can update your sig

staticlag 03-30-2008 03:10 PM

Yeah! Can't wait till I get new coils!!

It's bumming me out that I can't rev past 6K without massive misfires.

staticlag 03-30-2008 03:12 PM

If I had to guess, I would say with this tune 10afrs, I would say that I'm at around 220-240rwhp at around 5K rpms right now. Better tune and better coils will unlock the craziness!!!

Macius8 03-30-2008 03:21 PM

When is esmeril supposed to release them?

staticlag 03-30-2008 03:27 PM

I just want to re-iterate, that part of this problem comes from the fact that my coils weren't in the best condition before the install.

3DZukini 03-30-2008 04:56 PM

Can't tell much from that clip, but you sure sound excited. I'm not crazy about the gauge mount either, is that temporary?

ivory8 03-30-2008 05:26 PM

the guarge mount seems kinda big, does it distract you while driving???

i like mysql's gauge set up. its nice and clean

Is there a way to know for sure if it is the coils when you have misfires at high rpm?

Well, if you are having misfires (the mixture not being lit off and just passing out the exhaust).

The problem is either:

1) Sparkplugs (wrong gap)
2) Coils (not strong enough)
3) Wires corroded

Its' definitely misfiring, it only lights off like 1/5 rpms and I can hear the exhaust popping with the unburnt fuel.

I did some street tuning tonight, last run I did I was at 10.3 at 11 psi, I leaned it up slightly but I put it away for the night before re-running it.

I also richened up the low end a bit, I'm trying to get the 2psi-4psi range to be around 12 or so.

As I was leaning out the upper range, >4psi, I did notice that my car had an easier time staying at 6K, I think as I get closer to 11.0 I'll be able to rev to redline (now 9500 on this car :)) Oh, and with the move from 10.0-10.3 I'm getting more power, and quicker spool. Chris really was right, T-70 or greddy turbo, the Renesis flows so much exhaust that spool time is instantaneous. I get some lag when I'm under 4K, but when I'm over 4K the spool time is really quick! I'd say right now, I'm probably making 260-270 to the wheels. And its getting scary! When boost hits 11psi the whole chassis rocks backwards, and it's pretty much just hang on! I can't imagine driving this car with 300-350 hp, its already dang quick!

Yeah, I made it myself for that location, It has to be that big to accept 60mm gauges (which I will eventually get).

Its definitely noticeable, but its not that big of a distraction. I like it since I can keep my wideband in my field of view no matter how much I'm concentrating on driving, and I can monitor boost or AFR without having to move my head or eyes. That and it works with the stock Nav

I test fit mysql's location but I didn't like the staggered look of gauges on top of gauges. I'm going to put a fuel pressure on the A pillar and then I'm done with gauges!

staticlag 03-31-2008 01:22 AM

So far, the FEED gear hasn't been an issue with this car.

4.77 final drive + turbo = :)

WoodsOfGreenRx8 03-31-2008 01:24 AM

Dan.

Let me know when you get the coils taken care of, & we will get you on the dyno.

That sounds awesome. I can't wait to see more videos or dyno data! I was wondering if i hear misfires with my car. I just thought it was bogging due to being too rich at WOT, and it sounds kinda like popping/ bogging / backfiring but in rapid succession. I know if my car was tuned better it wouldn't happen though because when I switch out my AP to my EMU, the problem is gone at WOT and afr's are more normal (leaner, at about 11 or so). But with my current setup, with afr's closer to ten or bottomed out at 10, I think I hear the popping that you describe. So now I'm worried I have one of the three problems you listed.

Yeah, the sound you are hearing/feeling is definitely misfires, probably from being too rich. Upgraded coils would stop the misfires, but it wouldn't change the super rich tune.

If you have the AP, you pretty much have to drive it in all situations to get it to set it's own trim. So I'd say give drive it for a week or two, see if it gets closer to optimal, if not call MM and get him to change your tune.

staticlag 03-31-2008 09:13 AM

When I get the time I'll make a DIY - Street Tuning with the INTx.

It's really easy to use once you get the hang of it, it appears the software was written before mice were invented and they use a bunch of hotkeys to do any navigation. So it's a bit intimidating when you first fire it up. But its so easy to use that anyone with moderate DIY experience and knowledge of computers can use it!

The base map for the esmeril is pretty good! Its super rich for safetly but it has all the other complicated features (fuel pump staging, injector resize, etc, etc) set, all you do it adjust the fuel curve a bit and you're good!

Motomouse 03-31-2008 07:37 PM

congrats!!!

And tunning and dyno quick please :)

Grouch 03-31-2008 07:56 PM

What coils are you going to go with? If you decide on the MSD LS2 coils, let me know if you want to split the cost of an 8 pack.

I already ordered the LS2 coils a while back as soon as I started misfiring :) Should be here friday or monday.

Good news is that my stock coils weren't as bad as I thought. I was leaning it out some more last night, and I can actually rev to 9K! AFRs are still showing 10.0 at wot and 11-12psi. but it revs all the way up! I'm guessing 10.0 is the lowest my gauge can show and it was way below that before.

Its pretty crazy though, at 6K and 7K when the ports open/normalize its like a huge power boost.

importshowoff84 04-01-2008 09:26 AM

Man, I can't wait til mine gets here. I take it to the shop tomorrow and the kit should be there sometime this week. I have basically everything you have. Even the BHR rad. I'm intersted to see what your dyno shows. I'll also be dynoing mine. This is making me VERY unpatient haha. I WANT IT NOW!!! lol

importshowoff84 04-01-2008 09:29 AM

We really need this ignition upgrade tho....that will make this thing INSANE even tho this kit has already made the 8 a totally different car....
