Nice build Dondo, Your 8 has always looked clean as F*ck... Looks amazing, cant wait to see the results...

When I go turbo, Im still contemplating swapping an REW in there to make it reliable, least more than the Renesis... Idk maybe im crazy.

Grats on turbo, im totally jealous...

Ok, so it was a bit warm today so I watched my heat as I drove and I got into stop and go traffic. My dashboard outside temp read 82. While driving at highway speed I was getting 181-185. Once I slowed down into stop and go, I kept around 200-208. I tried turning on the AC to see if it would go higher. Right after I turned it off traffic opened up and I was able to accelerate hard and drive in 2nd. That's when I hit 215 for about a second and it hovered around 210-213.

PDX if you are hitting 220s while in stop and go I would think you will get the same on the track, even with the airflow. Just my thoughts and my numbers today. I will watch video of my last track day again in the next couple days and look more closely at my coolant temps, but I am sure I was around 208-213 on the track.

210-213F in 85F is rather high. It has been 100F plus here and i rarely hit 210F and when I do it's only under boost when I am driving pretty hard and even then it only stays at that temp for a few seconds if I hit any kind of straight away.

But then again I have a dual pass rad, FAL dual fans, and a secondary radiator

Thanks for the update. I definitely need more airflow, better ventilation and upgrade a few pieces. The stop and go combined with up hill and warm weather definitely contributes to the high temps. I have only hit 220 a couple of times so I do not want to give the impression it happens all the time. Having said that I am not comfortable pushing it on the track. I agree with you that I would see 220+.

Np. But I think what you see max in stop and go will be what you see the entire time on the track. my stop and go maxed at 208 until I pushed first and second hard in traffic. So I didn't see those temps a lot either, but I did see the 210-213 the majority of the time on track and that's with air flow.

What are Mazda's normal operating parameters for a stock 8 as far as cooling goes?

I don't know if I asked that properly, what's the highest temp that Mazda thinks is acceptable?

Well the gauge doesn't move until 230+F. Around half way. So Mazda must feel that the temp of 240F is ok. That's about the 7/8 mark on the gauge.

Not sure about a limit that Mazda feels is "the limit". But they must feel that above 230 to 240 is OK. IMHO.

Otherwise they would have made a better cooling system for the RX8!

In all your years with rotaries, what do you think the limit should be?

I recall a post by MM a while back and with all his cooling mods would hit 230* on the track. I believe that was before he went with the v-mount setup.

I doubt both of his build threads will get that long. He doesn't dick around as much as I do, he does it right the first time Hopefully next time we are in Vegas for WHIV, I can get him to drink another Das Boot and let me drive one of them

I'm not much for the night life cuz I start work about 4am every week day. My office is behind the Stratosphere about 1 block west of the strip. I'm always open for lunch. Will pm you my cell number.

we dont let our cars in Ga get over 220F measured at the oem site/top radiator hose. If you measure coolant temps from racing beat adapter it is about 10F cooler than the oem site.

too lazy to read, is there a reason why you didn't insulate the turbine housing?

Just curious.

Also, they need a minimum of 6 to do an order if anyones interested.

Here's an article about them. Performance Racing Industry (PRI) Magazine – August 2010 « Precision Filtration Products

here is the site.
