I know that keeps getting reitterated around here, but the question keeps coming up.
Scott, I realize that you sell them with the shims, but many folks will be buying them from NAPA or something similar without the shims and the damage to the housing is documented.
i was working on someone elses rx8 a while ago and noticed there were shims on the OEM plugs. At first i thought i was mistaken, but there they were.

Can't these shims be reused when installing the BUR9EQ Plug into the Trailing?

Also, since the OEM Plugs are 6 (or 7 for older models) Leading, and 9 Trailing... cant we keep OEM Iridium Plugs in the Trailing and only change the leading to the BUR9EQ? Of course eventually youll need to change the trailing as well since spark plugs dont last forever.

Anyone using the R7440A-10L plugs for leading and R7440B-11T trailing for track days...or are there other cooler plugs that are less pricey?

I plan on beating on it pretty good at the track...and want the cooler plugs if they work

shims should also be needed when using the BUR9EQ(Trailing) in the leading spot yeah?

Wouldn't these require shims?? Reach is .5mm longer than the RX-8 plugs??

^^ I think they are 19mm reach....It's OK to be a bit short though

( as long as you're not lying down)

took another review this weekend.

OEM leadings are longer than the OEM trailing.

BUR9EQ(Trailin) is equal in length to the OEM leading... clean swap.
BUR9EQ(Trailin) is longer than the OEM trailing... requires an additional 2mm in shims

sorry for the confusion.

picked up the plugs from the local checkers for 6.50 each... shims for less than a dollar at city mill

Do they sell the shims at local auto parts stores like Advanced Discount, Auto Zone or Pepboys? Does this change the way the plugs seal? Any sealant on the thread and/or in between the shims and whatever they have (washer?) recommended?

ive never heard of putting sealant on the thread of a spark plug.

not sure about the ideal "shim" to use... better if someone else here who is more knowledgeable answer that for us.

Well, went to my local auto parts store and bought 4 1993 RX7 BUR9EQP for $6.98 each, with tax was $29.74, that's almost the price of just 1 for the RX8!!!

And they are @(*% because they can't just raise the price of the RX7 plugs because it can be used on the RX8... They're trying to steal from us?!?!?

relax man

the standard RX8 plug is an Iridium plug... which is always much more expensive than older style plugs. The RX7 Plugs we are using are platinum... and hence cheaper.

yeah, cause the rx8 is the only vehicle using that plug, so the volume is low.

the spark plug isn't 10x more awesome than other spark plugs available.
