CRH To The Rescue...engine swap
Ray a.k.a. CRH is simply amazing.
On short notice he took the redeye in from Detroit on Sunday, rode to Redding with me to get a new engine, then swapped it out with only hand tools, jack stands, and my inexpert help.
I was hoping to restore my car to NA but we couldn't source a stock exhaust manifold in time.
I'll post more later when I have time, but suffice to say that if you have any work done by CRH you can expect nothing less than the utmost in professionalism, competence, and an enthusiastic, 'can do' attitude.
I'm quite certain that this fanatical focus on the customer extends to his products.
Well done!!!
p.s. I think 'goofy pajamas' is becoming his trademark?

'Lucky' if one ignores the two blown engines!
I actually think there was always something wrong with my original engine that didn't get cured on the rebuild. It never pulled more than 17" of vacuum.
I think Ray has some sort of voodoo spell he uses to slip the tranny out so quickly.

I would be currious to see a tear down of the blown motor. I love the turbo location for drivability and the stock look but have we ruled out the additional heat causing failures in that rear rotor? Slidewayz did you have any additional heat wrap around the hot side of the turbo?

I didn't have extra heat wrap.
CRH has first dibs on the engine, porting and all.

I know who I'm calling if mine ever goes down...that's for sure!
Oh...........I think everybody that has Ray come out should provide one unique pair of jammys as part of payment(and a mandatory pic).

^^^ good plan!!!
Damn, I'm gonna have to go to Six Flags soon. When I was there years ago, they had some jammys with super man logos all over them. On the front (in the crotch area) it said "Man of Steel"

god damn, I know who to call now if my engine blows up from all the nitrous!
however, I'd rather give him an armored clevar as part of payment than a pair of jammies! it aint gonna save ya from all the shrapnels my car throws out with nitrous injection!

The badge is always there. You should bring your 24 buddies here and install my turbo kit. 24 drunk people in one place with a few more cops would be such a good time

No, I didn't have any extra heat wrap.
Status update: this engine (it's a 2005 build) is pulling more vacuum at idle than my '04 engine ever did and it feels stronger when not in boost. This car is like the girl who you can't stop loving even when she breaks your heart.
Once again, plaudits and kudos to CRH for a job very, very well done. Props also for being understanding of my current (difficult) situation.
