It may be a stupid fix, the stock crank pulley uses the backing plate with gearing. Is that what the ESS uses to determine position? I did not install that plate with my new pulley.

Just one of those things that completely slipped my mind, until I came across a TSB that mentioned it.

Kinda pumped, hopefully that solves my issue and I can fire this thing up tonight.

Really getting tired of my daily and the great MPG it gets

That would definitely be a problem. make sure you clear the NVRAM (brake stomp) before you start it.

I will have to check my shop manual when I get home, but I assume this plate must be installed in a certain position. Anyone have any insight.

Yeah there is a mark on the front cover it lines up with. IIRC, it can only go on one way.

Ehhh 2 ways, the main nut has two dimples so I only have 2 options both 180 degrees from each other.

The workshop manual does not give any direction on it.

In a not so clear way it does, that picture you have posted assumes the e-shaft key way is on the top

its going to be difficult to tell if it is or isn't though, assuming everything is buttoned up.

As long as it bolts up and matches the dowel pines, bolt holes perfectly you are fine.

Make sure to line the triangle up with the marking on the front cover.

Should fire right up.

Fires up like a champ, topped off all the oil no leaks the usual exhaust smoke. Idle is a bit rough and two codes

P0335 (looks like my manual brake stomps did not take, will have to wait on the switch)
P2070 (Came up twice, not looking forward to this. I know the SSV opens fine I tested them all when I installed them, maybe a solenoid or a loose connection or vacuum line, or faulty switch)

Im beat, I will worry about them tomorrow.

The SSV codes can be normal drive it around and see if its still there. If it is verify your vacuum lines are in correctly. I would let it idle for about 15 to 20 minutes if you haven't already. Check for leaks and then drive it around the block make sure shes running ok.

Will see, switch gets delivered tomorrow. Ill put the body panels and button it all up this afternoon and take it for a spin. Got it up to temp last night, no leaks.

Fires like a champ fist time, even with the CEL. Idle is a bit rough but smoothed out mostly, until I reset NVRAM it is what it is.

Also ordered a scrap cluster from a pull yard to see if that fixes my door ajar light as the diode TSB was for something different it appears.

Feeler, If anyone is interested in any of my OE parts let me know. I will do a FS thread once I am all done.

Main components.

S1 trans w/ 29K miles.
OE oil coolers and all lines, lines are in great shape
S1 starter (low power)
Water pump/tstat
All pulleys
Axial flow S1 shifter
OE S1 shifter
OE oil pan/regulator
OE radiator and fans
OE motor mounts
OE Coils

For now if your interested just make me an offer, everything will be more than reasonable.

Not looking to make profits, just cleaning up my garage of the stuff that I likely will never need again.

Will post pics if asked otherwise, wait for the FS thread later next week.

Finally got a video uploaded, more will come!

For clarification that is not me in the video, just an overzealous diesel owner who wishes he had a rotary.

Sounds great! Why was the fender off LOL.

Yea... diesel owners are extremely jealous of RX-8s for some reason... I dunno what it is!

Nice, that is the way a proper rebuild should fire up. Congrats.
