I would think grease would attract dirt, etc. and accelerate the gunking up and seizures that occur with the SSV. I have always just used engine oil.

The grease point isn't on the body of the SSV, its on the pinion at the end that mattes with the manifold socket. There was white grease there when i took it out. Ill probably just put a dab of white motor assembly grease on it and call it a day.

Oh okay I thought you meant all over the SSV, . Grease on those points is recommended in the FSM.

hey n00b, if there's dirt in the intake then the SSV is the least of your concerns

True, but dirt always gets in one way or another. Ecspecially for the guys running K&N type filters.

Good to see America catching on to diesel properly. I wouldn't have anything else for a daily driver.

*edit* sorry for off topic random post, subbing to thread

The only Diesel I would own would have to be in a 3/4 ton pick up. I have no interest in a Diesel powered car.

With fuel at $8.22 a gallon (US Gallon, not imperial, for sake of ease of comparison) in the UK, the inherent greater efficiency of a diesel is seriously compelling. They sound a little agricultural when cold but at speed it's an irrelevance, performance per unit fuel use is far better than petrol as well.

Contemplating not reinstalling my AC system, not sure if its worth it though. Anyone know what realistic power increase you can expect from it on an 8.

Not sure on power rating of the A/C compressor but the weight saving has to be useful.

I'd be surprised if the entire system is 25lbs so negligible savings there. I know 15HP is the usual figure but that seems way to high for an 8. I'd guess 5-10 being generous.

I'd guess 5 hp is valid, however removing everything associated with it would reveal other benefits like increasing cooling flow through the radiator.

Got some free time finally, started the re-asembly today, here's as far as I could get on the block before I can get my parts. So I started the engine bay as well.

Words of wisdom, I will admit this is the most extensive build I have ever done on a car and although I know my way around this car very well. You can never have enough prep on the disassembly, pictures labels etc. I took over 200 photos during disassembly and I wish I took more. But all in all going smoothly.

The A/C system in the engine bay totals 18 lbs. The A/C compressor turns off under WOT so you'll be lucky to see more than 2-3 HP at high rpm if that

I was only contemplating AC delete but since its only 18lbs and 4HP it's not remotely worth it, and I was going with Agency or SR pulley kit.
