results short term aren't the issue, how long the side seals on the center iron last will be a test of time ...

I did do some trials on this a couple of years ago (accidentally) . Happy enough to try it again based on what I learned back then .

Ok then--nice. I am glad you decided to try and increase flow this way.
I may be really stupid but i still think those liners help kept the exhaust port as hot as they are. The water jackets cant touch them because of that dang secondary air pump space. IDK what do you think?
Are you doing to try and improve the lim also?

I think the liners need to be retained - they have a job to do which is to insulate the water jacket from the exhaust heat . I wouldn't want to remove them .

Nope - nothing planed for that . Going to try keep all other changes to a minimum so we can better judge the effectiveness of the modification I'm doing.

I understand, hence my "test of time" comment, which means long term rather than trials

watching & waiting eagerly just the same

the rotors have to be milled to accept the deeper seals SLidin8. There are pics out there somewhere after this had been done.

Bret, you are probably right, without the liner the exhaust would get that area too hot.
If I ever convert to a map type system I would run the secondary air pump all the time
Hmmmm going for more port matching between header and exhaust port?

one example, there are a number of builders who provide this service as well

REC Services | Rotor Services | RX-8 Rotor Modifications

Picked up a RX8 5 speed transmission . Now I have 3 transmissions LOL .
My old one , a near new 6 speed plus a 5 speed with 90000kms on it .

Thinking I'll fit the 5 speed because the ratios are much taller 4th = 5th and 5th is taller than 6th so I think it will be more suitable with the extra power.

+ i'm told it has the same internals as the FD trans which is ,supposedly, stronger than the 6 speed.

Creamic coating the sleeve may stop it from retaining heat

i have heard that you dont want to do that. It causes to much retained heat to the exhaust port area?

Those sleeves will be red hot. I think ceramic coating may help stop the metal from heating up.

Odd coincidence, I'm trying something similar with my center exhaust port. Removing the divider after about an inch to allow both housings to breath better. Will be putting it in my pre-turbo build when I get around to it. Sometime around 2025.

ceramic coating the outside of the sleeve may be of some benefit . I'll leave that for someone else to try , I have enough going on

now that may be an idea--remove the sleeve--coat the port--reinstall the sleeve.
That really may have some benefit--wish someone would do that.

Why coat the outside of the sleeve or even the port? There shouldn't be that much exhaust passing between the two, and I doubt the ceramic coating will have that much effect on metal to metal contact. Why not just coat the inside? Get all three sleeves and hopefully reduce the temps of the iron/coolant system. Don't know if it would hold up well, or provide much of a benefit, but after I hit the rotors I'm gonna use what's left for the ports.

That stuff could fall off and damage the turbo .

Could, but that's why I rebuild first, turbo second. Gotta finish up a few things even before that.

thats just it --there is a fair piece of that exhaust sleeve that doesnt actually touch the side plate metal. there is a space between them.
It is probably overkill for the benefit you may see--but it is interesting.
