It's all about the tune and an ethanol mix is a must IMO on this engine if you plan on pushing it at all. But if you want to venture over 13psi or so regularly then you better plan on an engine build.

If you are wanting 350-400WHP with any sense of reliability then a 13B-REW swap makes the most sense.

RMRx .... I have to agree with 9k on the high boost thing . Don't even think about 12psi without also running high octane . The engine will last just fine at elevated boost for short bursts , but I would think twice about tracking it that way.

I was always under the impression that 12psi on the BNR was quite doable. I normally run a 94 octane that can have up to 10% ethanol mix from Husky gas stations. When I can't find that I run a 91 octane from Shell.

It will run ok at 12psi on 94 pump gas ... most of the time . Then there is that time that it wont and ...boom . Anything over 10psi you really should be adding some ethanol as an octane booster.
Anecdotally I have heard that E10 ,compared to straight petrol of the same octane, has much better knock resistance . But I really don't want to test that .... due to bitter experience

I think I've blown enough engines personally and spoke with others who have blown them, enough to get a pretty good feel for what is doable and what isn't . This is also why I don't suggest W/M anymore and try to steer people to an ethanol mix instead.

Wow, so apparently I was quite misinformed - from this community I always gleaned that anything over about 9 or maybe 10 psi on a mostly-stock Renesis was paramount to attaching a ticking time-bomb to your apex seals and other internal engine components, seals, etc. I guess I got that impression from all the negative responses and warnings in all those n00b threads like this one saying "OMG I'm gonna boost my Renny to the moon!!1! Can I stick this Ebay kit on it? Also what is tuning?!?"

On a stock ( or mostly stock) Renny? This blows my mind. I had no idea you could do this, I thought it was lunacy given the common 7-10psi turbo numbers I see around here and all the (legitimate) words of caution regarding boost. I do feel waaay less squeamish about putting a steady 8psi of Pettit SC on my engine now

I knew Brettus built the "Ultimate Turbo Build," but I didn't know he does tuning for other members or has a service or whatever... With the COBB AP? I only have two months of my MazdaManiac remote tuning subscription left which will not be nearly enough time with his narrow tuning schedule to get my Pettit kit tuned once I finally get it installed, so if Brettus has a less rigid schedule than "Only every other Wednesday at exactly 5pm Arizona time and if you miss it you're **** out of luck and I'm still counting down your subscription time" then I'd be keen to look at the services of someone who's actually still on the forums and seems to have great reviews and a lot of knowledge.

Nice. Like I said, this new engine's getting the full treatment culminating from everything I've learned on this forum in the last 4 years

Yes I used the Cobb AP with Brettus and the MM schedule was one of the reasons I abandoned tuning through his service.
