Blown Greddy Turbo - UPDATE
Well guys/gals,
Finally.. my greddy turbo is back from it's rebuild. Many thanks to Rotary Performance for helping me find a shop to rebuild it.
Now for the details:
Some of you might remember my post about a year ago when I turned my blow off valve into an oil cannon. I routed the catch cat feed tube from the oil fill to the catch can the wrong way. Essentially creating a water trap. Needless to say, it froze over night causing the crank case pressure to not be released as it should. This forced the oil pressure in the crank case to be relieved the only way it could be... through the turbo. White smoke coming through the exhaust, nasty stuff. I found how the cause and fixed it then by rerouting the catch can hose. This damaged my turbo. It took about a year for the damage done to actually be known.
About 3 months ago my turbo started acting funny. Lack of boost pressure, that nasty white smoke from the exhaust again, etc. All at random times mind you. It turned out the cartridge in the turbo was shot. Over 1/2" of play in the wheels, etc. So I sent the turbo out to be replaced. Took about a month to find a shop that could do it.
Well, got the turbo back today. A rebuilder RP uses got the job done. Basically replaced all the internals of the turbo. Cartridge, turbo wheel, compressor wheel, etc. Polished the inside of the turbo housing too. So now it's basically new again.. whew.. big relief.. Work cost $850 to get it rebuilt. Better than buying a new T618Z through Greddy which would have cost me about $2250 according to Greddy USA sales.
Charlie at Mazcare in Ga. who I am having to the labor with the reinstalltion of the turbo unit itself recommended that I get my oil coolers flushed and cleaned. Just in case there were any metal bits floating around the system that got caught in the coolers. So I'm taking him up on his advice. Hope to have the car back up and running again in the new 2-3 weeks. Been too long without my ride. Just happy to actually seeing some good news..

Wow...how did I miss this? I know you had gone missing (I didn't see your post at least)...but I didn't know you blew your Turbo, glad your getting things fixed.
