She is still going strong. I had scare were she would was running in limp mode and I was getting -25% STFT, OMP codes, throttle body malfunction codes. system too rich codes, etc. and it was idling like ****. I checked everything and it was fine and I was about to break out the compression tester when I adjusted the MAF wiring harness near the fuse box and then all of the sudden it was purring like a kitten. I cleared the codes and started her back up and no CEL, and STFT within 3%.

I extended my MAF when I went turbo and apparently there is an issue in that harness extension so I bought new wires and high quality connectors so I will dig into that this weekend and rewire, and heat shrink it again even though it has been running fine. 13 year old wiring problems FTW.

I also sold my top mount turbo kit to buddy you all know (not Hoss-05) and he should be posting results soon. I am deep into modding the 335i right now and since the RX-8 is running fine I will just continue to enjoy it as is.

Great build. I'll be looking in to a turblown kit in about a year, once I'm done spraying/exploding my engine. Loved your thread as well. Good to see a longterm turbo build.

A turblown kit will be a long term build too since it will never finish showing up.

Do not consider Turdblown for anything at all unless you like setting money on fire. Get a PTP top mount kit and improve upon that or get a Greddy kit and improve upon that.

10/4 greddy's seem hard to come buy. But we own 8's. Aren't we already setting money on fire:p. But I'll look into the PTP and greddy thanks.

Agree with all of the above. But the collector on the Turblown mani is niiiiiiice. Better design than PTP log style IMO. I'm not down with losing the OMP.

I think Brett got the last set of Solid Conrer seals from E&J.Just yesterday they said 15 days until the next batch is ready. I should have my "new2me" irons here before then and ported.
While porting I went a little too far on the exhaust port, Hit the water jacket, and welded it back up. It was looking good, but found a small crack on the face of the iron, so I have to start over with a different set
Anyways, I'm hoping to have the motor together by the end of next month. From there I'll have to decide on a turbo. I also need to figure out if I want to go adaptronic or not. I really want to, but can't get one cheap enough. I have baby #2 on the way so I'm dialing back the budget A LOT.

9k may not agree, but the Rx8performance low mount kit is another to at least consider. See Gregs build thread for more info on that kit.

But Gregs isn't even that kit, he just has the manifold and turbo. Even then, AFAIK, he isn't making anymore power than he did on the BNR/Greddy setup. Unless he just isn't sharing.

I mean he should be making more power with that turbo but as we all know, these bitches are finicky when it comes to getting them dialed in.

I though that he said the only part he re-used was the intercooler to TB charge tube??

That's correct it's a RX8 Performance kit just without the TB charge tube and a HKS Intercooler that was already fitted to my car and bumper with ducting. The kit still works extremely well and makes plenty of power, overall much better than any hybrid greddy kit can be capable of. Dyno isn't really a priority just yet but that's mainly due to me just enjoying the car so much but in due time I'll get around to a dyno, I do have a track day scheduled for Oct. 2 that I am looking forward to. IMO if the budget fits this is the best option to purchase for a low mount kit that you can purchase as a kit. Scott those Beemers make easy power but a major PITA to work on when it comes to repairs enjoy the new ride.

Still running well at 10psi Thinking of turning her into a track rat since I am doing the suspension anyway. It will be hard to take the Volks off though.

Come on, wind her up to 12psi first. It's a noticeable increase as you're getting into the meat of the efficiency island on the compressor map. Aren't you running an ethanol blend anyway? I've been mine up to 12 psi for the last 6 months daily while running 98 octane (NZ) which is 3 octane points above our common higher octane pump gas.

Should we expect to see your 335i on The Smoking Tire some time soon?

I was playing around at 13psi or so for a while but I'm not up for another engine build at the moment so I am just enjoying the car.

And I won't be on smoking tire unless he comes to Texas, But I think a Turbo RX-8 would be more interesting than a 335i, he done a few of those.

But instead of my RX-8 getting a EFR 7670, it will be the 335i that gets one

Pretty sick. Have you ever timed the car to 60? How much faster is it than stock?

Nah, I haven't timed it to 60 but it hung with my basically stock 335i a few months ago so it should do 0-60 in around 5 seconds or under. Stock RX-8's are slow as hell, there is no comparison. But My 335i now would pull bus lengths on my RX-8 so it's all relative.

Would I recommend anyone to boost their RX-8? No, I wouldn't.
