oh, with all the new and premium parts used in your build do you really think its failing at only 16k miles?

and if it is then it would seem the renisis engine is fundamentally flawed.

I dunno man, the compression test (rotary engine compression tester) showed it was okay but excessive metals in the oil is not a good sign for such a low mileage engine. Also, although I never detonated and could not get into boost very well, I did drive the first 10k or so essentially untuned and running very rich so it's possible the excess fuel wash did some damage but that is not evident (fuel % in oil was normal) in my previous oil tests so I am just guessing.

On the next one, I will go immediately to Steve Kan for tuning again, I am not going to dick around with it again. Tuning is fun but driving my car like I want too is way more fun.

But yeah the Renesis is flawed from design in my opinion, and those weaknesses are exacerbated when you turbocharge it.

It's an engine it is failing the moment you start it, the length of failure depends on the attention to detail that was put into the build.

With the Renesis being flawed, It scares me to drop in my Drummond rebuild... Maybe I should keep it in it's case and just flaunt the Dyno chart

We have a winner.

A lot of people refuse to believe that the Renny doesn't support boost. They insist that if it was done correctly with top notch parts it would work fine. I've seen meticulous builds with the best parts available for the car go just as wrong as poorly thought out builds, it just takes longer. When enthusiasts who use premix, religiously change their oil, watch temps and don't even track the car are on their 2nd, 3rd, or even 4th engine naturally aspirated it should be telling people something.

That's the reason I was never interested in the Renesis, to fragile even worse when you add boost to it, and what's that get you sub 300hp for a couple thousand miles

Yeah, I accept it it for what it is. If I wanted a big power car that was reliable I would own one. We all own cars for different reasons and for me it's the overall feel and looks. All I need to do to remind myself why I still have it is walk outside

I also try to move up when I move on so nothing short of an S5, Cayman R, M3, new Z28, etc. really interests me. Heck my buddy has owned three EVO's (bought his first back in 03' and has owned two MR's, IV and X since then) and now has found happiness in a supercharged Civic SI that he tracks. I don't get it but we all have different motives and I can understand going with something reliable if you track heavily.

I can't see myself ever selling so when the time comes this will go into mothballs for a REW swap and I will get a fun daily.

I have several friends with Evo's and STi's. Everyone of them who has upgraded turbos either has or is close to getting a new engine.
One of which has blown 3 engines this year alone in his evo, things go wrong in any platform deny it all you want but adding power shortens the life of any engine.
Like the old saying goes, you gotta pay to play.
The renny just doesn't live a long life in any form.

Yeah my buddies buddy just spent over 10k replacing the engine in his Z06, it's hard for some to stay satisfied with power

I just like to hard park an shows/meets and watch people try to locate my turbo I also get a kick out of it when people ask me what it is.

Absolutely man, I will say, your RX-8 is one of the most attractive I've ever seen. Even your sig pic is gorgeous. I would love to see your car with a REW swap like firecran's.

I don't know a whole lot about the 4B11T in the Evo X's, but it's more fragile than the 4G63 in the previous cars. I honestly cannot imagine what it would take to blow a 4G63. There are guys running 700 whp on stock pistons/rods with drag setups, and I ran my car for almost 10,000 track miles at WOT pushing 450 whp on pump gas. The engine is basically indestructible. I beat on it so hard that I finally built the motor so I could throw more boost at it and raise the rev limit.

The STi motors are honestly as fragile as rotary engines. The engine builder at my shop has built 100+ EJ25 motors a year for over 3 years. He's never had to build a 4G63 for premature failure. Transmissions go the other way, Evo transmissions are really weak. I've broken 3 of them so far.

In the end I would say adding power pushes the weak points of whatever platform you have. That may be the engine, it may be other parts of the drivetrain, but if there is one thing I've learned, there are safe limits for each platform that keep it within it's "safety range" of reliability. When you push outside that limit is when things go to hell in a handbasket. That is just as true of Evo's, Corvettes, or exotics as it is of RX-8s.

That being said, I'm not sad that I pushed my RX-8 to the edge (and over lol) because it was what got me into modding cars and eventually racing. I met a lot of great people, and found a really meaningful hobby. Some days I regret selling my RX-8, especially considering how much money I lost on the deal, but at the time it was sell it or light it on fire and watch it burn. I think your idea 9k is the better one... hang onto it, keep smiling when you see it, and when you get bored do a full swap and get the smile back.

Thanks man, I will give one more renny a try and then it will likely be REW time.

Man, I am an old (showing my age) 4G63 lover in the form of a White on black 93' AWD Eclipse GSX. The later model 4G63's are as stout as they come. Making power is so easy, my buddy back then had a twin 93' Talon AWD TSI and that car is what got me into imports for good (I also had a 93' Z28). We used to cruise around Virgina Beach beating up on 5.slows. I love EVO's from a performance stand point, I just can't get excited about them otherwise.

I could get behind a white 93' GSX Eclipse though as a daily
