20B rebuild project

This thread replace the 20b ring a bell !!!! thread.

A friend of mine bought this 20B last summer and planned to do a complete rebuilt of the engine. In the past he did a lot of 13B rebuilt and wanted a other challenge. The goal is to Street port the engine and put on a turbo. The number of HP is not set yet but the range would be between 500 to 600 bhp.

With that said here's the pictures....enjoy

the old twin sequential turbo

We removed everything around the engine and the oil pan

Here is some various test

Iron micrometer test

Oil seal wrapage test

Eshaft end play test

Rotor bearing test

Stationary gear bearing test

Front bearing test

Here it is for now; we are curently at cleaning all the parts and some quote pricing for the resurfacing of some of rotor housing and ordering all the seals needed for the rebuilt.... and by the way we have all the template for the porting but now it's the time we don't have....I'll post more pictures in a week or so.

must be nice to have peripheral ports. i love how you can just pop off the headers (slight exaggeration) to look at your seals. plus your odds are much, MUCH better that your broken apex seal wont do permanent damage to your housing. im jealouse...

Ya you're write 'cause we knew that the engine was damage but when we open it we were surprise to see that the broken seal didn't do much damage to the rotor housing as we taught it would.

It's not so much the ports are bigger but the exhaust sleeves are where the major differences exist. The 20B rotor housing came with a very small exhaust sleeve insert that were mainly designed for noise reduction. The problem is that they cannot be ported to what is the norm of the 13B/two rotor housing. The cheapest but not the easiest method is to replace the 20B inserts with those from the 13B. The most expensive and easiest method is to purchase new 89-95 13B Turbo Rotor Housings.
