Xtant Amps vs PPI Amps

Does anyone have experience with these amps/

I have had two conflicting opinoins from friends tha work in high end audio. From what I have heared the newer PPI amps are worse than their old models because they focused too highly on power output and clarity has decreased.

However from what I have also heard Xtant amps are slightly hyped.

Any opinoins?

Each one can sound good. Use your best judgement. PPI is more powerful.

Ok this is the scoop on PPI and Xtant, the original ower of PPI in the past left to another company, which one you ask, yup you guessed it Xtant. So old PPI amps are as good as the new Xtant but the new PPI amps suck because the old owner took his technology over to Xtant that is why Xtant amps came out of now where into the high end mainstream now.

When Xtant first appeared on the market, the amps had some pretty pathetic power supplies in them. However, that was several generations of amps ago so this should be rectified by now.

If you are looking for high end - take a look at the products from Zapco. Also, I heard a rumour that some of the engineers from PPI went to work at JL Audio.

I've been looking at the xtant x604 today. It's a lovely piece of engineering. Over here it tips hte scales at over $2000 Ozzie dollars.

The other problem is that if you put an x604 in your boot (a piece of gleaming metal art), what do you do for a sub amp? The x1001 is almost identical, but I can't justify another $2K to power a single 8~10 inch sub.

If you want high end sound the go look for a fairly small company called Lunar. They are based out of Louisiana. We used these amps in our IASCA and USAC expert class PT Cruiser called the Reaper II. BTW: If anyone ever sees cables, accessories, etc called Reaper cables or Reaper caps from P.I.E you'll know where they came from

Those amps are some bad mama jama's. They are obviously high quality, but there is very little information available out on the net in the form of reviews, etc. The fact that there are so obscure and have a proven track record makes me want them quite a bit. Any chance you can help me work a deal with the guys at Expressive.

Probably can do something on price but don't expect miracles.

Wink Xtant vs PPI

Both of these amps are fantastic. There is a difference however in what each amp does best. This will vary some from model to model but this should give you a good feel for the two of them.

Both amps are going to be clean sound. The Xtant amp will have about a 0.004% THD (total harmonic distortion). The human ear should not be able to pick this noise level up below 0.01 but hey, they can still list it. With subs, this is not much of a problem anyway because most of the interference is in the high pich range and filtered out by the low pass filters. Noise levels on subs mainly comes from wiring errors rather than the amps. For subs, I would recommend going for higher power.

PPI makes a mean amp for power. I have one running my mids and highs. Crystal clear with 0.02% THD. You can't hear it, but that may be my tenitis drowning it out.

Orion makes a nicley powered sub amp, JL Audio good as well, If you have the money, go for a US amp (if they are still in business).

Enjoy the ride. . .
