Well, the MD slot definitely aint' a friction fit. That connector just slips out without the bracket. Once I put the bracket on, it seemed pretty good. I could pull it out if I tried, but I couldn't get it to drop out on it's own.

Once I crammed the Axxess adapter thing in there, it really can't fall out now.

Your zip tie seems like a good extra measure.

yeah that cable was like a foot long and the way it was wrapped it was sort of set in it's way and wouldn't cram in there. Just consider it to be a woman...long winded and stubborn. :P Had to compromise and just work it out.

Hey DeViLbOi, you bought the unit from AutoToys.com right? How much did you pay. Another person said they paid 119.00. It looks like they raised the price to 139.00. Just curious.

Yea, they did raise the price on it. Mine was $132 including shipping. But as stated earlier, if you pay with PayPal shipping is free.

Received and installed mine tonight. It was a Revision E5 I think. The construction of the plastic axxis? box was somewhat shoddy but it turned out whoever put it together put the circuit board in backwards.. popped it out and turned it around and everything closed up nicely.

I pulled apart my center console and mounted it like Devilboi(thanks for the instructions!) with plenty and plenty of wire to spare. HU removal went largely without a hitch aside from disconnector problems and a single snapped clip on my shifter boot peice which was remedied by some superglue(the only clip that isnt a white plastic reinforced one..). I also used a zip tie to secure the plug adapter because it seemed kind of loose. It won't be going anywhere now.

Shuffle seems to be kind of odd, unil I set up playlists I just have the whole ipod on shuffle and cycle through songs or pick an album through the ipod interface(you can disconnect the ipod and change etc, then rehook it up and it continues playing immediately).

I also wish the song titles showed up slightly faster, there's no changing song or command delay, just a delay on the song title showing.

Overall though it seems to be a good purchase.
I'll put some pictures up tomorrow of the install.

Random from the HU did act a little strange for me as well. However, after the fiasco of trying to get random CD's I just opt'd to enable shuffle on the iPod via the settings menu.

Glad the install went well for you. Have you noticed a better all-round sound from your stereo now with it? When I was tooling around with CD's I very much wanted to put in an amp so I could fill out the sound but now with the iPod connected I really don't feel the need. Do you agree?

I disconnected the battery so I've not had time to really re-tune.

I really want to go aftermarket on the stereo.

Try playing with the EQ in the iPod as well to see if it fixes things for you.

Last night it seemed to function fine although I had not let it play for any substancial amount of time.

PROBLEM: looks like mine might be overheating as well. It's about 95F here outside today and after about 15 minutes of playtime the system stopped responding to skip functions(but music kept playing).

I disconnected the ipod(which still showed the axxis logo v M 1.1) and reconnected it. The axis logo shows up but the music won't play. I turned the car off for a few minutes while i ran an errand and it started working again, then cut out another 10 minutes later. Now I'm not even getting an MD detection indicator on my dash.

I REALLY don't want to pull my head unit out again, and if I do it looks like I will either be soldering and re-routing the axxis box or returning the device if it continues to malfunction. I'm worried that no matter where I place it unless it's in the cabin it will overheat, and it's crap if its overheating there and the stock radio system right next to it is fine.

I know it can't be a loose connection issue because that zip tie isnt letting it go anywhere.

Edit: Contacted Axxess Support, guy was helpful in that he let me know what the revisions changed and that while there is a software update now(1.3) it only addresses XM radio issues. He said that ambient heat should not be overheating the device and advised that if I determine the problem continues to happen to go ahead and go for another unit.

I also learned that Circuit city is a retailer for them so you should be able to pick up axxess boxes from there.

Because we put the Axxess box within inches of the engine I would not be surprised if it were a little warm in there. I actually burned my hand the one day pulling the Axxess box out. Now that your car has cooled has it gone back to operating normally?

I am wondering if pulling it out of the plastic box might help, or maybe putting some of that heat shield stuff around it. I had a problem that one day but ever since I put it back together with the zip tie I haven't had it cut out. I can say that soldier melts at a much higher temperature than can be generated in that space so resoldering isn't going to help. Rerouting the box somewhere else is a possible solution, but I don't know where you would put it. Good luck.

I don't know what kind of line noise issues I would run into but I was thinking about extending the line between the box and the radio, moving the axxess box all the way back to the open gap near the rear cup holders(there's a bit of space there I discovered while running cables).

I guess I could also reroute it through the side to the glove box.

I'll figure something out though. Now that I've had the taste of no CDs I can't go back...

Another location that might provide a little less noise would be behind the shifter. I know I have a ton of room there, but you may have less with your GT.

There's no room there due to the heated seat switches.

I wonder, instead of going to the glove box, what about under the stearing wheel near the magical silver bolt.

that might be a good idea, except routing the cables out might be an issue. I didn't see much of a gap there and it might take a lot of slack out of the ipod cable. I'll screw with it this weekend don't really have time to do it today.

Just went out and checked again and the HU isnt even detecting the interface anymore at all. Ambient temp is 92F. Looks like I might have a toasty axxess box. I suppose it COULD have worked a little loose but between the bracket and the zip tie I don't have high hopes. I'll figure it out tomorrow either way when I pull it all out again. =/

Check the other end of the molded connector first. Wiggle it and see if it comes back. No sense in pulling the whole dash apart if you don't have to. Might also help in resetting the Axxess box.

it's got to be a heat issue. Sun goes down, adapter works flawlessly.

Interesting. I haven't had a single problem with mine -- and it's Darn hot here in the valley (ambient temp daily 101+). And there's obviously no circulation around the
Axxess box with it stuffed into the head unit.

Hmmm.

Good luck.

I just got mine back after the new update and it's still doing the exact same thing. If it's hot in the car, it just doesn't work. w0rm did you ever have yours mounted under the HU? I've always had mine to the right of it between the HU and the glove box.

There is a spot between the HU and the glove box that is practically made to hold the audiolink and I would guess this device as well. It's a 6 to 7 inch long shelf between the glove box and the side of the radio.

I installed my audiolink right after running the car for about 45 mins and it was the same temp as the cabin in there. just an FYI if you're worried about overheating.

I'm not sure mine is a heat issue anymore as it's faulted during the evening as well.

I'm going to pull the adapter out this evening and double check all the connections but it just doesnt seem like a connection problem. I want to be sure before I but autotoys to RMA.

Evening or not that section is going to be warm with how close it is to the engine. The location that laythor mentioned may be an all-round better place for the box.

I was going to put mine behind the ashtray but it felt like an easy-bake over down there.

I have some medium density foam cut to size keeping it very securely in place.

I have the cord run to my glove box and a pocket on the left hand side to hold the Ipod in place. I usually listen to playlists or podcasts so having to see the screen is an almost non-existant issue. When I feel the need to change something it's a quick matter of opening up the glove box and selecting something else.

that's the trick, all our controls are through the HU, the ipod interface is locked even.

I'm thinking its more of a hardware/software problem with the axxess box itself. I have the entire unit mounted in the MD slot of the HU- heat should not be an issue.
