Why no sub in the recess?
Hey all. I've looked at tons of threads so far of people's trunks, and I cannot find a single sub install where someone made a custom box for the trunk recess on the floor for a flush mount. Seems like a shallow mount sub (Pioneer TS-SW2541D or similar) would work.
Are there specific reasons there aren't any?
If there are any, can anyone post pics of their setup with details on sub used, etc?
It seems like a great spot to use considering our limited space, but someone obviously knows something I don't. Thanks for the input in advance.

Stuff falling on top of the sub and destroying it comes immidiately to mind as a good reason not to mount a sub flat on the floor. Also, 2 good 10's tucked into the corners of the trunk is just going to sound way better. But follow your dreams! It'd be a cool looking setup.

There has been a few, but we can't seem to get anyone to fab us up a good box.
Here's a link to one of the threads that talk about this: https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-interior-audio-electronics-24/thought-about-subwoofer-placment-127031/

1. cant lay golf clubs or whatever old people set in the trunk without protection
2. Probably hard to access the jack box unless you make it accessable
3. sound quality from a resonance going vertical is completely useless
4. you can only fit one speaker flush mount unless you have two small 10's
5. zenclosures just has such a great box, why not use it?

To clear up one issue, you would obviously have to protect the sub with a grill of some sort to keep the floor as usable storage space.
I'm not advocating this as the best idea, but I am floored that out of all the people with 8s and subs on this forum nobody has this type of setup.
Anyone with pics?
Chris

Heat isn't a big issue, there are a bunch of people with amps in the area that are completely covered with no issues. I don't know if amps generate more heat than a sub but I would guess they probably do as most have no form of active cooling, just a heatsink. Not to mention that any sub that is able to fit in there isn't going to be real powerful and probably won't generate much if any heat at all.
As far as placing a sub in the recess, I am working out plans right now for an SQ10 from elemental designs. I don't have the cash right now so in a couple of weeks I should be able to buy all the stuff and I will post up a thread with the plans and how I did everything.
