Hey i was just wondering how people got threw the firewall to the battery on there rx-8's for the power wire. Running 4gauge and was just wondering if you need to drill or if there's a grommet of some sort or something else. I used to be a car audio installer but im to lazy to look myself and figured someone may know. Thanks for the help!!!!

 

Go thru the rubber the heater hoses occupy, between the washer bottle and the intake manifold. Might be tight for a 4 gauge, but will fit.

(...and yes, for an installer, that IS pretty lazy! )

Or you can run up to two 0 guage lines through the firewall when you remove the windshield washer resevoir. This is where the JDM version of this cars steering wheel would normally go through the firewall, lots of room there.

when i remove the windsheild washer resivour i dont see any holes behind there? do i have to make the hole? of am i just missing it? after i remove the 2 bolts at the top, am i supposed to pull the whole thing out or will it just be there?

 

Pull the whole thing out. You will have to drill the hole yourself. Do not drill too deep.

 

How deep can you drill with out hitting anything like wire's
would using a Step up drill bit work good.
Has anyone used a bi-metal hole saw drill bit.

To be honest, I measured, but forgot the depth. I used a Blue-Point hole cutter, but I think you should be fine w/ a uni-bit. Just drill the first hole and measure before you go bigger. If the uni-bit is too deep, which I don't think it is, you can always dremmel the hole. It seems like there is insullation behind there too.

 

Thanks for the reply I just got done installing my 0Gauge power wire.
There was about 3inch's of space. I used a bi-metal drill bit it worked fine was going to buy a step up bit but they wanted $50.00 and I was afraid it would go to deep.

how far did you drill into the firewall?

 

All the way through!!! (Sorry, couldn't resist.)

 

The firewall is very thin I drilled a small pilot hole and then i used a 7/8 bi metal drill bit. You don't want to push on the drill much so when you drill true it doesn't ram forward when it go's true the firewall.
I then Used a razor blade to cut true the rubber mat that was behind it.
