Where to put a sub?
Where to put a sub?
I read a number of posts about equipment, but I don't have the first issue solved -- location. Where would one put a sub in an 8? I saw that one trunk installation, but I don't get how subs in the trunk work actually help things. Should I just replace the Bose 6 X 9's with a good quality ones, and call it quits? Ideas?
There are a ton of options, mostly trunk installs. The set up that I heard locally had a sub placed in the rear fender well with a 4080 sub box (fiberglass box moulded to the well) and vents cut into the ski-pass through hatch and covered with a fine mesh.
Looked great, sounded great etc.
If you don't understand how a sub in the trunk helps sound inside the car, just think about when you pull up to a red light and hear the sub of the car three cars over... the sound spreads much more than you'd think.

Are you looking for a lot of bass? If you don't need the loud thump-humping bass, then some good 6x9's with an amp will do just fine.
I am actually making a FG enclosure for the passthrough. I should've been done by now, and pictures should've been posted, but these dang holidays keep getting in my way.

I'm not looking to play music for the people on the sidewalk, but I want to hear clean undistorted bass playing, and crisp hard thumps of the bass drum with no rattles or buzzes. Clean, quality, sound.
Most of you guys probably have good systems on your computer. My modestly priced Altec-Lansing sub would be awesome in my 8. (Heck, that's less than $100! Anybody ever modified a computer sub to work in a car? That would be a great discovery!)
Jedi, nice install. Good, clean, crisp, quality work. You obviously know what I'm talking about.

I thought about going the route of the 4080 enclosure, but the damn thing is over 300 dollars! That with the added cost of an external amp and installation just seems to be too much.
