Upgrade Bose + iPOD Install

Hey guys,

Although i dont have my rx8 yet , its gonna be in my hands in about 10 days, and i have some questions about the soundsystem. Im a fanatic when it comes to music, my computer is equipped with over 3 hard drives of MP3's and Music videoclips.

Now, in my previous car (Fiat Stilo 3D - Doubt youve ever heard of it) , i had installed two SPL 12" Pioneers, and custom built doorpanels in the front. I cant say, the smack against the face when the bass came on was fantastic. This time round, i figured i would install the higher quality BOSE system.

Now to get to my problem... I dont wanna change the Head unit, i really like the original one. i want to simply add to it... Starting with a speakers, then an amp, and the the bass...

What size and where are the speakers located in the rx8?

I read the threads for certain members upgrades, and still found myself a bit confused... can you run amps off the original cd player?

I would take it to the store, but since i live in greece, i find it hard to trust anyone with my baby (imagine! it aint even here and its my baby :D ), and before proceeding to a store i wanna be aware of everything i can!

As far as the ipod goes, im just wondering if anyone has the Icelink Plus, and if it is fully compatible with the iPOD U2 edition (yeah my interior is black/red leather).

Thanks for your time,
Mike

ps. Great job on the forum!

If you are planning on doing stereo mods, DO NOT get the Bose system! I have it and it's a nightmare to mess with. However the GT package comes with it, so if you want leather seats you will have to get the Bose.

The only mod I'm doing is installing an amp/sub in the trunk. The installer just has to run the amp from the back speakers.

Hi Mike,

In regard to the speakers, the base system has 6 X 8 in the front (most 5 X 7 should fit) and the rear deck has 6 X 9 openings. I replaced mine stock base stereo ones and the result has been dramatic. The stock ones were really crap. I also added a amp and a sub with a 4080 box that I bought from another forum member to give a more balanced sound. All in all I am very happy with it now, it is very balanced and has a nice clean sound. I also got a 'pie" like external rca input device but haven't had time to install it. That will be my next project as it has been sitting on my desk for almost a year now. I haven't had experience with a iPod yet but there are quite a few people that have used the icelink for that.

Regards,
Stephan

This is exactly the way to go... no Bose, replace the speakers (use a 6.5" component set in the front and a good pair of 6x9 in the rear. Get a sub box for a 10" sub from 4080, install a good 5-channel amp (I love my Alpine MRV-F450) that can drive all your speakers and the sub, and you will be a very happy camper.
For the iPod, the IceLink will work (as several people said) or the PIE is fine if you don't insist on controlling the iPod from the steering wheel.
If you must have the leather, you can always go aftermarket and forgo the Bose.

btw. I know the Stilo... a good buddy of mine has one. A neat car, I like the looks of it.

The car has already been ordered and the dealer gave me the nose system upgrade for free, as i also closed a leasing deal (37 sedans, 10 luxury sedans, and 15 minibus) for a company my father works for here in greece...

I was thinking of looking into some Vifa, or Scanspeak speakers, to get the extremely high quality im looking for... and adding some sort of sub in the rear... maybe a bandbass box... dont know...

gotta look into it a bit more... does any of you have install pics from the trunk?

There are plenty of installation pics if you use the search feature in this subforum...
