Ultra n00b question re: Standard Bose HU

Okay,

I have been reading the forums, and I'm completely confused by all the jargon and part numbers and what can and can't be done...

I have a BOSE in Dash 6 CD Stacker... and the sound quality is pretty crappy...(I am no Audiophile, but it seems to me to be very tinny)...

By replacing the 1 way standard speakers (i.e the 2 x door speakers, and the 2 x 6 x 9s in the back)....with some quality 3 ways....will I get a better sound, or is the problem with the head unit/amp?

The way I understand it, is as long as I use good 4 ohm speakers, the sound quality will be improved?

Sorry for the n00b post, but I have no idea, limited budget, but am looking to get a slightly better audio result...

Cheers

Dean

rear deck speakers can be replaced by just swapping speakers. door woofers cannot be swapped due to form factor and impedance. The front center channel can be swapped, but be ready to remove some material to makeit fit.

if you want to replace your door woofers you'll need to have an aftermarket amp

So if you have the bose system you can still upgrade your rear speakers without any ill effects?

yup. I had infinity kappa's in the rear deck running of the bose amp for months. I believe you can do all the tweeters as well. you should check the audio install reference . all the info is there.

Yea, I've read through the reference.

I guess I just assumed the backs were some bose proprietorial nonsense just like the fronts.

Well, time to price out some 6x9s!

never fear, Jedi is here!

Yup, you CAN replace the rear speakers, but the little guys require a little bit of custom work. (aka sharp razor blade and a steady hand)
