[FIXED] Troubles installing my sub.....

Alright, I finally got around to getting everything installed this past weekend..... but I ran into an issue. There seems to be a problem with my tapping off the amp harness in the rear......

I followed the DIY guides by G8rboy and others for tapping the preamp signals to the Bose amp and double checked my connections several times, but dont seem to get a signal at all to my crossover/amp.

My setup consists of an AudioControl 6XS to an Elemental Designs NiNe.1 amp and 13Ov2 sub. I used this wiring diagram from G8rboy's post for my taps.

Any ideas?

I can provide any other info if needed and thanks in advance.

The Bose system uses different voltages on the front and rear preout lines. You should be tapping into the front preamp line between the head and the factory amp, not after the factory amp when using the 6XS. There are 5 grey sheathed preamp lines coming from the front of the car and down the passenger side of the vehicle, they should be easy to spot going into the factory amp. For the life of me though, I cannot find my notes that tell me which ones were which.

yep, i made sure that those were the lines that i tapped..... but ive always seen to use the rear lines to the amp...... why do you suggest the front?

for the pre-amp for the rear channels, i used:

left rear +: green/orange
left rear -: blue/orange
right rear +: grey/red
right rear -: brown/red

There is a huge voltage difference between the front and rear preamp lines, go to the front lines with a more powerful signal.

I finally got the time to figure out what it was last night.....

The taps I was using werent penetrating the insulation on the wires well enough to make a decent connection....

So I broke down and did some in-line solders and its working great now.

T-taps are the worst connection known to man, now you know firsthand why we installers and shop owners cringe when we see them.

not trying to hijack your thread but I have a question regarding this topic. I took my car into an installer here in town; I had already installed my alpine components in my doors and was going to have them install my lc6. I removed the Bose amps from the doors and was planning on removing the amp from the rear speakers when I got around to changing the 6x9's in the rear. My installer told me that I needed to have all my Bose amps reconnected and tap into them after amps. I was like no freakin way, I just did all that work to have to re-run more wire from door amps to rear again?! I have read alot of threads about tapping in after and before and blah blah blah ( foreign language to me). Basic yes or no, does he sound right to have them re- installed? He says they would not run without it. It kinda makes sense since I am thinking if I don't, it could overload my HU. Any info appreciated.

If you take out the rear amp, the front amps go dead. So this will depend 100% on where you tap into the leads. AS you have the Bose based system, I would tap the leads at the input side of rear Bose amplifier. There will be 5 grey sheathed preamp leads that you will need to sort out as to which one is for what. The rear preamp leads have way less signal as compared to the front, just a little FYI. The LC6 or 6XS will take any type of input signal and give you what you need in this car. You will not overload your head unit at all.

forbidden,
One question to clear something up that has been debated in numerous other threads. For the specific applicaton of installing a 6XS, when you tap the bose input & solder rca plugs, is correct to wire the (+) to the center post & the (-) to the outer? Other threads say to leave the (-) disconnected, but I don't agree. I figured I would ask you since you have done several installs w/ both units.
