Hello i wanted to know before i purchased a 04 rx8 if you can take out the navigation completely! i don't like the pop up one. Then if i wanted to change it to a in dash navigation what do i need to do besides take out the stock radio.

Yes, you will need the following

Your choice of in dash radio, I recommend Pioneer SPH-DA100 AppRadio

Parking Brake Override Module (Convenience)


Metra DD Dash kit 95-7510 (HG)
HG only determines finish either piano black of flat

Metra Axxess ASWC Universal Steering Wheel Control Interface

Replacement Cover for dash after you remove the Nav
Mazda P/N F151-55-210B w/o Bose
Mazda P/N F152-55-210B w/ Bose

 

seems simple enough! where do you suggest i run the iphone cord to? middle consul?

 

Yup, I took it one step further with the addition of the dashcommand app.

You would need

PLX Wifi Dongle (wifi as the radio will use bluetooth for your phone and you cannot use both at the same time)


Dashcommand App located in apple app store.

So once i pull the old navigation out what do i do? do i need to buy a cover ?

 

and if you have the cord running from the new unit to the iphone what does the PLX Wifi Dongle do?

 

Wifi dongle interfaces to your OBD port allowing the dashcommand app to pull data of the ECU allowing you to clear and diagnose check engine lights and monitor real time engine data.
