Super Easy Momo Shift **** Install

http://www.gomiata.com/timomiad.html

This link is for a really cool adapter that lets you "screw on" a momo into a RX-8. It is listed for a miata and works perfectly on my '91 miata. I just got a brand new velocity red RX-8 6-speed so I wanted to see if it worked. It does!!!

It makes installing a momo shift **** super easy. You screw on the adapter to the shifter, then you put on any momo shift ****. use the smaller hex screws that came with the momo shift **** to secure the **** to the adapter. Then unscrew the adaptor. Then screw on the finish collar for the shift ****. Then reinstall the entire thing by simply screwing it back onto the shifter. My momo competizione **** looks great and feels much better than the stock shifter.

I was having so much trouble installing my momo shifter into the rx-8 because i couldn't get the collar on the momo and have the **** sit without a gap to the shifter boot. With this adapter the bottom of the shifter sits flush with the boot. It looks super clean!

Exclamation Thank You for your kindness

Thank you to those of you who still have a sense of dignity. It was not p.c. of me to post in this forum being "external" and all. But in my defence, when I searched the site for a similar posting the "momo shift ****" posts all came up in this forum. So it was an intentional mistake if you will. For those that do "allow" my mistake I thank you for your grace. For those that that do not, at least I'm cute. :D and I'm not affraid to post a picture of myself to prove it! :p

Any pics of the momo **** you chose? What do you like about it more than the stock one?

I got a the "Competizione"

I like it because it lets you shift with either a pistol style or baseball grip. I personally like to use a pistol grip for everything but 5-6th and reverse.

Of course I prefer the look of the polished aluminum but that is more personal taste. Because the **** is solid aluminum it feels really solid without any sort of softness too it. It feels much more connected with the adaptor than without. You can feel a little more transmition vibration than stock through the ****. The shift gates feel much more precise than stock. I found that when I was in a hurry the stock shifter made me miss my 5-6th shift and I found 5-4th twice by accident. The triangular rotary shape of the OEM **** made it difficult for me to feel where I was in the gear box. The symmetrical rounded shape feels much more intuitive for me.

One thing I don't like is that with all solid metal ***** they like to get really hot in a parked car in the summer time. It feels uncomfortable hot to touch when the sun has been beating down on it for a few hours. If you touch it a few times and cool your hand off in the A/C vent it's fine after a few seconds. But that was something no one on any forums warned me about!!!

That being said, I would have no problems recommending this **** to any of my closest friends. I do find that the MOMO ***** with leather/aluminum combos have poor build quality from seeing several of my friends ***** after a year. Their leather/alu ***** are peeling and logos falling off. They look terrible. I have three friends who have the same problems. The solid leather ones and solid metal ones seem to be excellent. But most of the cool looking MOMO ***** have a mix of both.

I got the Competizione because I saw pictures of old F1 Cars and Indy cars and the ***** in those car look just like the Competizione. I figured if it was good enough for Ayrton Senna it is good enough for me.

Welcome to RX8club.
Thanks for the post.

???Cute???
What's that got to do with anything???
If you're a chick, you're probably high maintenance.
If you're a dude, most of us don't care what you look like.

It would be nice to see pictures of your installed Momo.

Thanks truemagellan!

Oh, I forgot to mention that I wrapped the shifter with some teflon tape before I installed the ****. Makes it have a super snug fit. I picked up the teflon tape at home depot for $0.25 for a small roll. A little dab of lock tight would do the same thing if you are into that.

Good eye! Yes, those are my steel wheels for winter. I just got them the day before a big storm here a week ago.
