Subwoofer Air Space
In a sealed box with a 12 inch sub typically how much air space is needed on the front of the subwoofer. Right now the way the box fits i only have about 2 inches between the fron of the sub and the floor.
Will this effect the sub dramatically. Even break it?

Free air space (or lack of) shouldnt break the sub, even its its only 2 inches. The enclosure size and power would affect the linear excursion of the driver more than the free air in front of it. But having it radiate to the floor does really allow for good sound radiation. Low Freq base is not very directional, but still, having more air in front of the woofer is going to yield much better sound.

Thanks for the replies true adn dj.
Heres the box that i have.

Problem is that its too tall to fit straight up in the back of the trunk. The only way to make it fit is to put the sub face down and the plexi facing the outside of the strunk. Which looks really sweet btw.
This only leaves about 2 inches of clearence if i raise the box up off the floor (sub face down).
Its has a 12 inch elcipse titanium sub in it. Not sure of the model number.
And its being pushed by 350 watts mtx amp.

oh ic, wow I'm not sure what to do there...but best position for the sub is to have it face the rear of the car IMHO, my box is also for a 12 but fits upright, I should show you a picture since I got mine for only $26 shipped you might want to sell your box and go that route...the eclipse sub doesn't need that much air if I remember hmm

mine is just a bit too tall to fit under the metal brace but it does slide in under the amplifier so that it does not hang over the depression in the trunk at all...the boxes depth is not huge at all...nice thing is it fits so snugly that I don't need to do any mounting work, just slide it in I'll take pics when I can, '4yrs to supercharge' bought the box for me and will have the same setup soon with a higher power amp
since I have hundreds of wires running behind there and an avelectronics switcher and some noise filters for the xbox I don't mind the extra space, once I have some more time I'm going to probably add one or two midbass speakers to the pass through with a small box behind my current 12inch box, all removable, I'm a skier so I'll need the pass through every once and a while, removing the subs is easy

Not too sure about adding mids to the center pass-through True.
The box is 14 inches tall and like he said not very deep.
Here are the dimensions: 18"L x 14"H x 4.75"D (top)/8.25"
This is where we got them (they come as a pair):

I just ordered Dave Navone's NE-7V for $19.95, my amp has a lowpass crossover so I don't really need the fancy AL6 stuff I spoke to him yesterday to confirm this is the best for my application.

If anything I would connect them both just for future expandibility, but if your amp is bridged mono, it should only need one channel of input.
Yes a person could hook both sets up to just one speaker but how much draw does the LOC pull off of the wire? It is better to balance it out by tapping two channels right and left.
The directions for this converter do say to tap as close to the head unit as possible to prevent a ground loop.

So even though the website for the LOC says its isolted to prevent ground loops, you still should tap near the headunit....
