Sub and amp reccommendations?

Alright guys, I'm tired of the lack of bass in my car so I'm hooking up a sub. I've already got a box on the way from 4080 and I plan to run a single 10.
My goal is to have excellent sound quality at reasonable volume levels.
I don't need earth shattering bass.
I want something that sounds good at every volume and every so often I can crank up just for fun.

So that said, as far as spending goes, i'd like to keep it below 750 for the amp/sub and I absolutely have to have some sort of remote sub control so I can adjust the gain from the driver's seat. RBC-1 or whatever..

So far, I've had the following suggestions made:
JL 10w6v2
Rockford Fosgate P310
Audiobahn ALUM10N
Kicker CVR10

No one has really reccommended an amp, but I had looked at the JL e1400.

I'll take any suggestions and info you've got.

BTW, 4080's box has a volume of .8 ft^3.

Thanks guys,
Ajax

Well, I can't help you with a specific amp recommendation, but I absolutely love my Infinity Kappa Perfect 10.1 sub in my 4080 enclosure. It can be had relatively cheap and it's an efficient (high sensitivity) and great woofer as far as I'm concerned.

10w7 is too big for the 4080 box. I am really happy with my 10w6v2 and a JL 500/1. I would recommend staying away from AudioCrap. I bought an amp a while back because it was cheap and it kept overheating in the trunk cause it was cheap.

Agreed on the 10w7
Their reccommended volume is 1.25 cu. ft. / 35.4 liters

Has anybody put a JL 8W7 in a 4080 box? I'm considering this.

I'm a fan of Audiobahn.

I have dual Alum12N 's in another car and they're really nice. Not the greatest sub on the market but a great buy for the $$$

I'll keep an eye on the sub recommendations as I'm looking into a similar project.

Eclipse aluminum cone series will work exceptionally well in that situation.

well,

we have a 13w7 being powered by a crossfire amp , vr1000
i know its not the top of the line but it does the job

i tend to like arc audio amps ,
just got my hands on some diamond d7 amps .which is the best amps diamond audio produced.for our ford f250

get a custom made box -i like band pass boxes and port it thru the rear deck its work but you will have min rattel in trunk

Ajax;

It's been a while for me, but here goes.

I'd say bass quality is about 80% enclosure, 10% driver, and 10% amp (give or take, say, 5-10%. I hate putting those kinds of tags on things, but you get the idea).

A single 10" done right should sound great.

You're set on the box, so I won't get into enclosures. But, you do have to look for a sub that is optimized for smaller enclosures with .8 cubic feet of volume. You could use any sub, but one designed for a larger volume will roll off more steeply and you may miss out on some lows. The flip side to that is that it may make the bass more punchy.

So, to roll off a few brands without knowledge of enclosure size, I'd look at Polk, Boston Acoustic, and Orion. I've never personally been fond of JL.

And onto the amps.

I've heard good things about Soundstream's DaVinci line, and you can pick those off eBay rather inexpensively at this point. I could raffle old amps to search for on eBay, but new amps that come to mind would include XTant...well, that's the only other (new) one off the top of my head, but a very well respected authority claims those DaVinci's are hard to beat for the price and value. If you look at another amp, just be sure you can bridge that sucker down to 2 ohms to really drive that sub.

I just reread your message, and noted the desire for a sub level control up front. It shouldn't be necessary, but admitedly, may be helpful. If you can spare the cash, look at some of the AudioControl products. They have several pieces that can utilize a remote volume control, it would be up to you to see which one fits best into your system.

The JL Audio W7 series subs are really, really deep. Aside from the lack of volume in the 4080 box that's mentioned above, I doubt that it would physically fit.

The W7 series are amazing speakers. I opted for a single 12W6 instead because it's not nearly as deep and requires a smaller box. A single 10 just never really "did it" for me in a car stereo. A single 10W7 in a ported box might, but that's a lot of box to get there.
