Stock Nav System or Aftermarket
I had wanted the nav system but the price was too high. I have been looking on line and at retailers like Best Buy and see great stand alone aftermarket navigation systems. Most of them are portable any one look at these systems as an alternative to the stock systems.
Anyone have any good references or first hand knowledge on some of these retail nav systems???? Please do tell...

While standing in line at the DMV yesterday for an hour and 45 minutes, I decided to finally read the owners's manual...what a concept, right? Anyway, I read that aftermarket NAV systems might interfere with the TPMS or whatever the official name is for the tire pressure monitor. Of course that's just one of 15,000 warnings in the manual, so take it for what it's worth. I swear that manual would be about 30 pages total if the cut out all the legal CYA crap.

Here's an old thread that might contain the answers you need:
https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-interior-audio-electronics-24/aftermarket-navigation-4800/
After looking at all the options, I decided to get a PDA/nav solution as opposed to a dedicated aftermarket nav (not one of the products listed below)
To help with your research, here are some links to Nav only devices.
Garmin as just released a new StreePilot:
StreetPilot 2610/2650
Also, a Garmin PDA with built-in nav:
iQue 3600
Navman offers this model:
iCN630

the built-in nav is really good, however if Mazda and Navtec dont get through the holdup on releaseing updated disks,I might have to turn off my built-in unit and purchase an aftermarket unit
