Speaker Replacement

I origanally posted this in the RX-8 discussion forum above and someone pointed me out to this forum that i completely missed. That said, here's the repost.

Hey there guys! I'm probably assuming this topic has come up more often then not and here i am again with it.

I'm rocking an 04 with the Bose system, however it seems like I had damage the driver side mid speaker from "excessive use". I'm also getting my car repainted currently and figured I'd swap out speakers while door panels are off. I would like to get some new speaker that can handle "excessive use" and now come to you guys for suggestions.

I'm wondering if I should stick with the Bose system that came with the car or go with another brand. And if with another Brand, which should I be going for. I know there's a lot of brands and the best brand is purely speculation, but i figure who better to speculate then the Rx-8 forums. I don't really want to swap out the stereo if it can be helped but I'm not trying to be stingy either. i don't even know if there's an aftermarket radio out that keeps the aesthetic of the console it's mounted in.

So put simply:
-Stick with Bose or go with another Brand
-If going with another Brand, what is highly recommended
-Should stereo also be swapped out, if even doable, and would i need an amp, however I'm still planing to roll without a sub for now
-Should I be looking at replacing all the speakers or just the damaged mid and it's fellow companion

All suggestions, recommendations, and opinions would highly be valued, and thx again for the help!

If the 9" woofer in the door is what's blown, you can't swap in anything aftermarket without using an aftermarket amp.

Yes you can and an amp. Yes you can swap out the stereo. Neither are cheap. And kinda overboard if you dont plan on adding a sub.

Also, since you're here just trying to replace something broken, it leads me to believe you're mostly happy with the Bose system. I wouldn't blow this away. Yes, aftermarket stuff is better. No doubt. But I'd just find a replacement speaker and move on with life. Next thing you know, you'll be blowing $1400 on a system when all you really wanted was to fix a blown speaker...

listen to firebirdude.. he knows of what he speaks.

I've replaced the HU, the stock amp, the front speakers, the front tweeters, and put a custom sub in the trunk. Did it one step at a time which spread the cost over the course of 2 years but I still know exactly what i spent, and it wasn't cheap.

If you can find a stock speaker for less then 300 bucks then you're better off replacing it because even doing a very cheap amp/speaker replacement and doing the labor yourself would be more.

nice find firebird! OP, jump on that then either hold onto the other stuff or resell it and get most of your money back.

Wow, $268 for shipping alone, is it just me or is that pretty pricey?

Are used speakers from Ebay pretty reliable?

They are the Mazda speakers some kid took out of his RX8. They are as reliable as Mazda made them.... well except the rears. Those look like Sonys to me.

Regardless, dont spend over $300 to replace a blown Bose woofer.

Try finding them on here.
