I'm not sure if this has ever been discussed before ( probably has, but I didn't find it in a quick search)...

I find it really funny how the time for a song on a CD is displayed as "feet" and "inches" e.g. 2' 35"

I've never seen this type of readout before, but it is pretty amusing!

That's also common nomenclature for minutes and seconds. Its all about the context!

Well, there is a band out there that is called "3 inches of blood", so it is not that uncommon to have such nomenclature in music
And yes, as bureau13 pointed out, this is a very common way of indicating time - maybe not in the US but otherwise all over the world. :D
To be honest, not being from the US, it never occurred to me to think of the time display referring to feet and inches.

yeah, you'll usually find that form of minutes and seconds used in describing lat/long, eg:

032 04' 38" N

32 degrees, 4 minutes, 38 seconds
