Some Suggestions? What do you have?

So, I currently have an alright sound system in my 8... but I want better, obviously. There is a problem there... I've never installed, a detailed perfected system. I'm not totally ignorant to systems... just, not experienced.

I'm going to attempt to build a little speaker box to fit into that little inlet in the bottom of the trunk. I had 2 10"s in a custom box that goes against the back of the seats... I'm looking to go to a single 12" Sub with a dedicated amp. I don't know if I need a capacitor on that or not though. Also, since I have factory CD, I might look into changing that too, but I'm not changing the cab speakers yet. I also want to make this Sub/Amp set-up, open and easy to upgrade with another amp to power my cab speakers, when I buy them.

I've been looking at rockford audio.

Here's what I've liked so far... I'm easy to persuade to get something else though

www.rockfordfosgate.com

12" Sub --- 109

AMP- 299

http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/produ...n_US&p_status=
Processor -- 400

http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/produ...1&locale=en_US
Bass remote -- 40

http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/produ...0&locale=en_US
Capacitor -- 150

I haven't looked at new decks yet... because I REALLY like my gadgets, and want to get this set-up done first, because I'll end up getting the most pricey, a newest deck, that comes with 12 LCD screens and a coffee maker if I do that right now.

So.. ANY suggestions or advice, Much appreciated :-)

EDITED LINKS!

first off- none of your links work.. maybe you should just tell us what your looking at.

here is a link to my system for ideas - and in my opinion, 2 10s sounds better than 1 12 anyday. especially if the 12 is designed to fit in the trunk well.

Save the time on the enclosure and just go here. http://www.4080enclosures.com/shop40...?idCategory=53

lots of people on this forum use these enclosures and swear by them.

Alright, thanks so far... and yeah, I copied the post from elsewhere.... I was sure it wouldn't work, I'll edit it in a min.

And now, with the suggestion, I'll most likely use 2x10's instead of the 12"

Also, I looked at the enclosures... but I don't want to put my subs there. I wanted to try something new... and that's add the subs into where everyone seems to put their AMPs. Right into that little cubbie hole.

But, I know size and the cubic feet I need for the Subs might say I can't do it. That's why I'm turning to you Gents. ;-)

I'm also looking for a new Deck... I want a screen like your's wikked. And, what did you do to finish off the face trim around the deck?

Here's another option for an sub enclosure I'm using the Zenclosure with two 10" subs and loving it. I've to my amps on the back of my sub enclosuer with 1 stinger fan moving air around my amps don't shutdown not even in South Florida heat. Makes for a clean looking install and still have plenty of trunk room.

If you go with a good after market headunit you probably won't need a sound processor. I believe you were linking to the 3sixty.2 which I'm using with the factory head unit, just keep in mind its a bit tricky to calibrate.

Good luck

Thanks.

Again on the enclosure though... I'm looking to build my own, to fit in that cubbie on the bottom of the trunk... But, I don't know if it can work. If not, I'll go with the two 4080's on the side.

I'm using the corksport Kit - its about $500 from corksport.com - Yeah it's expensive, but there aren't a whole lot of options.. i think I remember seeing one other place that had them, but the price wasn't that much better. - but it comes with everything you need, mounting brackets, ac controller, face plate, and the wiring harness with really good instructions.

Ehh, price isn't anything ;-)

I don't mind paying money for good things, especially electronics. I'm a geek that way :-/

Start with the Corksport kit and then determine if you really want the techno gadgets or not. If you do there is a real nice option for you. Update your user info to show people where you are while you are at it. This way you can be directed to the proper dealer in your area or proper responses directed to you. (Canada has different laws as compared to the US for example).

Done, and thanks.

I'm certain I want the Tech gadgets... I really want a DVD player in my car. I'm also thinking about addin a 360 and all for giggles. Just because most everyone around here can't say that ;-)

And entertainment for the guests while on long roadtrips.

I have a e-mail of a new techno gadget that is all that and more down at my shop. I will check on it tomorrow when I get there. Send me a follow up e-mail to forbidden@telus.net if you could please. It is a Provincial holiday here in British Columbia so I will be closed today.

Hawaii? is there really roads long enough to need a dvd player?

although i did make a DVD of music videos, I can't watch it when i'm driving so i don't even put it in unless someone is in the car and we are driving over half an hour on the interstate because it's so distracting

You have a return on that e-mail. Always a pleasure to hep you military people. I see US Airforce crews here at the pub I work at all the time due to being in a military town myself, CFB Comox on Vancouver Island. Met some real nice guys from Panama City, Alaska and Utah in the last couple of months when the flew up here for a month long exercise.

i dont think that the hole in the floor will have enough air space for a sub, however you might want to look at rockford's shallow mount subs, im not sure if they do them in p1, but they do them in p3's

also another question (sorry if i hijack) but how important is the sub box in regards to air space and the sub. i have a 10" rockford p3 which requires about 0.5 cu. ft. and my box is about 1 cu. ft.
is this really bad, if so, how can i change this (if possible) without changing my sub or box

You can get stuffing, like at any local hobby shop. Put cotton stuffing in it to close the space in. I know having too little is bad, and I know having WAY too much space is bad too.

Thanks for the insight.. I was looking at the shallow subs also... I think I'll go with 2 10" shallows, and the 4080 enclosures.

I just don't want to spend 300 per enclosure.

uuumm actually - cotton stuffing makes the box seem "bigger" to the sub. so if you add it to a box that is already to big, won't it just cause more problems?

the specs on RF say that sub needs between .5 and .75 cu/ft - I don't think that yoru big is big enough to really hurt it that much. although if you were going to max SQ and SPL then you would want to get a smaller box. If it works, don't mess with it.

I wouldn't even think twice about it. For sealed designs, a larger box will give you greater efficiency and better low frequency extension. But to a point of course...... if the box is TOO large, the sub will begin to act as though it is in a free air design. But we're talking (guessing about) 7-8cuft for that single sub.
