Sat radio tuner options

I am looking into options for adding sirius satellite radio. I have an 05 special edition with the "Sat Ready" head unit with Sat button but no tuner/antenna. Looking at the installation instructions for the Mazda Satellite radio kit, it shows the tuner with the following label:

Sanyo Automedia
Model No 14790650
Part No 0000 81 Z01

This Mazda kit including antenna sells for $320.

At www.sirius.com, they advertise a Sanyo ESR-T100 tuner which is compatible with Sanyo "Sirius Ready" receivers. This sells for $49. The corresponding antenna is also sold for $49.

It is possible that this tuner (along with antenna) ($100) would do the same job as the Mazda kit ($320)? It would appear to be a much more affordable option if they are compatible.

The only real option is the factory set up that was the deal they had with sirus, and maybe in a year or two there will be a aftermarket option.

Couldn't get a clear answer from Sirius other than to go see your local Mazda dealer. So I've given up and ordered the kit from Mazda. Too bad they won't provide more specific information...

Sam,

how much did you end up paying? did you have them install the SIRIUS unit? how much was the installation.

I'm looking into getting the tuner and a GPS installed.
