you need Tasker, Secure Settings and maybe Busybox apps (worth installing all of them)

I don't remember if Root access is required but i'd assume it is

1. Profiles

I have 6 profiles.

Screen on (if the orientation of the device isnt face down then turn the screen on, wake the cpu, set airplane mode off, screen stays on while there's power)

Screen off ( if the orientation of the device is down then, system lock and airplane mode on)

Tablet off ( if there is no power shut down the tablet)

Dash off ( if dashcommand isnt on then bluetooth off)

Dash ( if dashcommand is turned on then bluetooth on)

Power off (if there is no power for 10 mins shutdown)

(this one is just a backup in case the device doesnt turn off first time, so the tablet doesnt run out off power)

ok so i could go into how i made these if people want but i'll upload the xml file so you can load them in and have a look.

to load the xml press the settings buton on your device (or the 3 dots in a vertical line on tasker) then go to DATA then click Restore. it will be looking for the xml in the follow place

SD card \ Tasker

if you have something you've done before then you might want to backup first and move that xml file somewhere else

I use dashcommand instead of Torque so you might want to switch that, or delete those profiles entirely if you dont want the bluetooth commands.

Also this setup powers off your device completely so if you dont want it to shutdown your tablet then remove the power profiles too.

my tablet turns on with ignition and tasker turns it off when i turn off the car
it states it couldn't read back up data sorry, when i tap restore.

Okay for anyone that does this mod, realize that unless you buy a car charger from samsung or anyone else for that matter, it must be a galaxy tab 2 charger. You can buy an adapter here USB Data/Charging Extension Cable for Samsung P1000 - Black - Free Shipping - DealExtreme. If you want to build one yourself or don't want to wait for china there is a solution. I had a usb extension cable I cut in half. Peel of some insulation on all four wires. Tie all the green and white wires together, then tie the reds together, and then tie the blacks together. Solder all the tie points. Don't be scared to solder it's super easy, heat up the gun, touch the tire tip to the soldering iron. While holding there touch your solder to it, make sure to get a high watt soldering gun, I got a 65 watt one from RadioShack, turns cherry red and take half a second to melt the solder to the wires. Okay next your gonna solder two resistors to the green and red wires. A 33k ohm and a 10k ohm. Okay, pay attention to detail here. The other end of the 33k goes to red, and the other end of the 10k goes to black. Once done, make sure no wires are touching that shouldn't be, such as the outer shielding if there is any, which does nothing, and hot glue a big blob around the entire thing. I got a project enclosure case, the smallest one they had, and melted a spot in the lid and the box, where they meet for two wires. One on each end. Make sure to tie two knots in the wire, one on each side of the circuit you just made. Make sure the knot had wire with insulation on it so it's big and thick, to keep it from being pulled and breaking the solder points. This will trick the tab into thinking it's hooked up to a samsung charger and will fast charge instead of trickle charge. It took me ten minutes to make and was fun.. I also got the sense of accomplishment afterwards. Looks like a part I would have bought from a manufacture. If you find yourself needing help just pm me. I get it directly to my phone and will probably respond quickly.

Tasker Guide

ok so i'm going to do a step by step as best i can for all of my tasks

things you need

Tasker

Secure Settings

(Root your tab)

Open tasker up and you'll see a few tabs .... profiles, Tasks, Scenes and Variables

we're going to be editing the profiles and the tasks here, if we wanted to get more complicated we can introduce variables to do some smarter commands but I'm going to keep it really simple

while making these it might be best to disable Tasker from running click your options button on your tab ui and click disable Tasker (remember to enable this after though )

Screen on:
Firstly we need to make a new profile i called it "Screen on"
go to profiles tab and then click the plus sign to make a new profile this will give you a few options
Application, Day,Event,Location,State and Time

we're going to choose state here and then select the option "sensor"
we then choose orientation and choose is "face down" then click the invert button.

this basically says when the phone is not facing down we perform an action.

press the back button and it will ask you to create a new task, name this screen on aswell

now we'll be in the Task edit screen click the plus to add an action

now out of the options we want to choose plugin then secure settings and then click configuration

this will option secure settings and we need to go to actions and choose wake device, choose Cpu awake only, from the drop down and change the time to 4 seconds

this wakes our device if its gone to sleep

now click the plus again to add another action to this task and do exactly the same but instead of of wake cpu only we want screen and keyboards lights on and change to timeout to 0 seconds.

next we'll add a new task (i cant remember where its located so in the filter just type "stay on" and choose that task drop down the mode to "with ac or usb power"

this keeps the tablet on while there is power going to it from the car

once this is done click the plus to add a new action we're going to choose display now and then display timeout, increase it to the maximum time possible

this means the display wont turn off while the tablet is up.

you can also add another task for airplane mode just search the filter for it if you want it

this is done!

Screen Off

make a new profile Screen off

choose state and then sensor > orientation and choose face down (dont invert though)

add a new task and you want to search the filter for "system lock"

then you can add airplane mode on if you want that by doing the same

Done!

Tablet Off

new profile

we want state > power > power change the source to any and click invert

add a new task search the filter for reboot change the type of the reboot to shutdown and tick continue after task error.

we're done guys! re enable tasker (if your tab isnt connected to power it will now switch off)

I may have made some mistakes if so please point them out. hope it makes sense.

I've installed my tab2 pretty much exactly the same as this however I have used a xcarlink Bluetooth adaptor with AVRCP controls that utilises the steering wheel and factory stereo buttons soooooo nice a feature! also I was having a huge problem with ground loop noise through my AuxMod (not an AuxMod issue but a grounding issue with my tablet charger I think). Thanks for making the write up it has been invaluable!

I didn't make it power down yet but it used more power in 4 hours than before with just gravity screen. 23% to be exact. I need the playplm file for the boot with power programming.

DO NOT USE THE TAB 3! USE TAB 2.
The tab3 has actual buttons on it you will not be able to press with out messing up the hood.

For those who do not want the flip-up tablet, I am almost done to post my build for a complete replace from stock radio to an in-dash Nexus 7 2013. Including steering wheel controls, back-up camera, bluetooth and more.

RacingMeter at work.
I also use Tasker, VTL-Launcher to put desktop at landscape.
Tab is an Enspert Identity e201 with latest firmware.
I choose this tab cuz of the position of the on/off button, audio and power socket which are all on the side.
Running on 2.2 (Froyo).

Some problems with this setup :(

Hello all. I have a Galaxy Tab 3 installed into the stock navigation housing. 1.3_LittersOfFurry, there's a bit of space where the home button is, so it doesn't get pressed

Anyways, I have a few problems.

1) how do you guys get the sound to play through the stereo?

2) The tablet charges through a USB charging adapter that plugs into the cigarette lighter. Whenever I plug it in, the radio reception gets worse. Why is that?

3) if I don't plug it in to charge, the touch screen on the tab is a little messed up. It's very imprecise. It doesn't select anything when I press on the screen. But once I plug it into the cig lighter, it works fine.

4) As soon as I got the tablet, I installed Gravity screen, so that the screen will turn off as soon as the screen faces down. For some weird reason it doesn't work in the car. What do you guys use to turn the screen off?

Thanks

I use a GROM and stream it via Bluetooth. It keeps the steering wheel controls working also. I've heard about the interference thing with certain chargers. Find a usb charger and use that. Don't use gravity. Use tasker. It allows u to program it to do things under certain conditions. So it looses power cause you turn the car off? It goes into standy and shuts off bluetooth and wifi, if you program it to do so.

Thanks for your reply. That's brilliant. Always wanted to control it with the steering wheel controls. I did some research about the GROM adapter and it says I should have a CD changer. My car is a JDM spec and it doesn't have a CD changer, not even a CD slot. Will it work?
My car also came with a factory installed iPod adapter. It looks a lot like the GROM but with a Mazda sticker on it lol. Will I have to remove it to install the GROM? I use the iPod by setting my car stereo to the "CD" mode. If I don't have an iPod connected it says "NO DISC".
I will download Tasker immediately
Yes, because I'm charging it through the cigarette lighter port, charging stops when I turn the car off. Getting it to turn off when I turn the car off has been one of my dreams lol. I'll download that app ASAP :D

I have ZERO stereo in my car, so my setup is completely different. I am working on getting one connector left for my car and it should be "good to go" in regards to my tablet install. I will post a whole build about it there too, but I didn't want to go into the whole "tablet in nav" thing.

make a new profile Screen off

choose state and then sensor > orientation and choose face down (dont invert though)

add a new task and you want to search the filter for "system lock"

Done!

tasker

Is tasker the 3.99$ app on the google play store? Is there a free alternative? There is a free tasker app factory but this seems to be for making apps...
