Rx8 50-50 weightdistribution affected by adding a system??

Forthose of us who have added a box w/subs in the trunkof our Rx8s --mine is like40 or 50pounds--are we affecting the Rx8s great weight distribution and handling since we have some added weight at the back of our cars? I hopeits negligible

umm using some really rough numbers.. I would only say that you would move the CG about only 1.25 inches back.. Using the numbers of car weight of 3K lbs.. and the 50lb sub being about 22 inches way from the rear axle. (complete ball park guess as I don;t know exactly where your sub is.)

its a rough calculation but you end up with about a 49/51 distribution. So I wouldn't say that its too bad at all.

I believe he is saying the difference is small
I have a box in the trunk and my car seems a little lower in the back but rides perfectly

I'll be doing ... spare tyre out/sub in. so it'll make little difference in my case I'd imagine.

My subwoofer enclosure with subs weighs in at 127 pounds. There are 2 subs at 37 pounds and the enclosure is 53 pounds. After adding the amps and amp rack there will be somewhere around 150 pounds more in the back. Cool thing is the 127 pound speaker box is directly over the back wheels. This being the case I should get a little better tracking for standing starts. I have a Borla kit on order to try getting back a little bit of the lost power to weight.

Not to be too picky, but I assume you mean 'traction', not 'tracking'? Aside from that, you won't - the RX-8 certainly isn't traction limited right now, so it doesn't need any more weight over the wheels. All the heavy speaker box will do is make you slower. :o

Regards,
Gordon

Typing way too fast - traction was the intended word. The comment about better traction was mostly whimsical. I really do have a borla kit coming in to help compensate for the extra weight.

i read in a few magazines that the weight distribution isn't quite exactly 50:50, that it's slightly more in the front. If this is true, then...

The 50/50 weight distribution has a person in the drivers side factored in, so I read somewhere. Don't ask me how heavy the guy is supposed to be.
